hi guys, im looking at an ek9 with just under 100k on it. its been looked after so plenty of life left? just like to know abit more about a high mileage one. its in good condition and runs sweet as. is it worth a buy?

If its the right price (i.e. cheaper) - IMO yes.

B16B's seem to be generally more hard wearing due to the reduced stroke.

Just make sure you do the usual checks - especially oil usage/black smoke from rear under VTEC or when backing off

I wouldn't say 100k is high mileage for a Honda, lol. If it has good service history and is a healthy engine you have nothing to worry about.

If it runs fine, doesn't burn too much oil, It will be fine (They all burn some if driven how they should IMO). I saw a DC2 go through auction recently with 470,000 km's (290,000 miles) and a few with 180k miles + baring in mind that the B18's are more prone to wear than 16B's.

Also gearbox is evidence of a hard life, if its slick with no crunches I wouldn't worry about it, common bushes are things that will need replacing around those miles if your serious about the car :nice:.

EK9s are hitting 15/16 years old now, 100k isn't much considering.

Though most would benefit from a rebuild nowadays.

it appears to be well looked after, the guy who had it in japan fitted tanabe coilovers and a fujitsubo exhaust, carbon spoiler and spoon parts here and there. im guessin he looked after it and a friend has it now who i know has looked after it. very regular oil changes etc. its dirt cheap but needs some spraying doing as he scuffed the front and will supply new wing and bumper. im getting it cheap enough to have it resprayed straight away. so should look sweeeet! thanks guys, ill be sure to check gearbox and vtec etc!

mine has just done 99k & is fantastic! this isn't a high mileage for a 16 year old car, & as mentioned above, so long as they're serviced regularly, should be good for another 100k!
I remember reading in evo mag that most modern engines should be good for at least 150-200k..

I wouldn't say 100k is a high mileage car - B16Bs tend to last longer than B18Cs due to lower piston speeds and higher rod/stroke ratio (less side load on cylinder walls etc...). Having said that my old B16B did burn quite a bit of oil. Get the engine up to temp and get in and out of vtec a few times and have a friend drive behind you and check for smoke. You can also go on the motorway, rev the car to 8500 rpm, lift off and let it roll while you're still in gear, when you hit 2000 rpm or so step on the gas again - if there's a cloud of smoke behind you it's an oil burner. A long hill will work for this as well, just let it roll down the hill in gear and step on it at the bottom. But if you're getting it cheap enough buy it anyway, I have been driving around in a smokey 9 for a couple of years until a healthy engine came up for sale at a reasonable price, you can do the same.

Should be fine, as long as things are looked after then they should last a damn sight longer than 100k.

Mines on 102k. I'm whacking a turbo on mine. If you got a good one, your sorted really. You hardly hear of a b16b smoking etc.

Given the year of the car, 100k is not bad. Mine is roughly 125k and it's still going strong

Get an inspection and test drive sorted in it lad, but if it's been well looked after etc & priced well I wouldn't let mileage put you off. :drive:

You should go to Ireland I've seen a hell of a lot of smokey b16'bs although I no what u meant.....
To the op do the normal checks, make sure it's not throwing out blue smoke not black seen someone write earlier black smoke isn't oil blue is :) but generally if it's been looked after with regular services and runs well it should be good to go

Thanks for all ur replies guys feel much better about it! Although now i have my eyes on that nighthawk black euro r which is up for sale on here......euro r or ek9???

Different in size that's for sure.

I can't comment on the Euro R, but I'd imagine they're more exclusive than an EK9.
