Hello all, for my first car I am looking to get a 1.4 EK civic and was wondering approximatley what the insurance figures will be. I will be 17/18 but my dad will most likely be the first driver with 10 years + ncb however he had a accident last year but wasnt his fault which the insurance is still deciding on the verdict. It will probably be a multi car policy too as his BMW is £300 a year.

I really would like a civic over than the usual first cars such as Corsa's etc.

Also, if I was to put the type r front and rear splitters on, would I have to declare it on the insurance because a friend of mine has a polo with a cupra splitter and he told me that they do not need to be insured or was he pulling my leg?

Thank you!

I had a 1.4 EK as my first car and I payed £2000 for my first year but I only had my mum as the named. That was with Quinn Direct. I would guess that your splitters should be declared but the best way of knowing for sure is to ring them and ask.

Hope this helps.

I was about £1500 for my 1st year mate.To be honest you'd be aswell to start it in your onw name if its your car because now they are making the prices much the same as they know people just put it under their parents name when it isn't actually their car and is in actual fact the young driver. Best thing to do would be compare quotes, most likely be Admiral/Elephant you end up goin with mate they always seem to be cheapest for young drivers

Cheers for the replys, I had a look on comparison websites who didnt give me quotes on any big well known insurers and the quotes can at around £3000 which is a abit too much for me. I'm guessing it will be cheaper phoning up direct to them and negotiating?

It won't be cheap, Hondas arent cheap to insure and as a first car yet ain't cheap especially with another 30% insurance increase, I'd probs expect you'd pay about 2500 roughly

Get a cheap 1.0 polo or something and get a year or two no claims then buy an ek4 as it'll be cheaper in the long run

if i could go back to my first car,i would just get something really cheap, dont modify it..then just use it for a year to build up a years no claims, you will then also be a year older-so insurance should be affordable on a civic.

then over that year, all the money you were gonna spend on modifying your car, just save..then once the years up you will have a decent amount to buy a nice civic/funds to mod it.

HTH

put your dad 1st driver, or 2nd either way your insurance would drop, lady drivers are best to kill insurance premium lol.

or wait 2 years

Honda civic for a first car is gonna be costly to insure, as iv came to think of it now, it's actually same price for me to get insured on a 1.8 Toyota celica as my 1.4 civic!

And an rx8 is only a few hundred more which I was shocked to see, which is making me question whether I should jump boats and get a different car!
But I do love the civic, so which is why I got the car and pay the insurance.
So it's up to yourself what you'd want to do and on the long run, better to drive a polo like said above then get yourself a year no claims then jump on the Honda scene.

What every you go with you probably get stung, would a more modern car with extra safety features be cheaper? Installing a thatcham alarm might bring it down too.
