Back in its "Hey Days", the Civic EF9 was the obvious choice of many tuners and teams that partook in the "Civic One-Make Race" that popularised the 4th generation Civic as a street weapon of the late '80s till early '90s, just before the dawn of its descendant, the Honda Civic EG. Still, the older EF-series Civic retains much of the original flavour, why many aspiring boy-racers fell in love with it. Today it is still a hot favourite amongst Kanjo-Hashiriya (Highway Racers), who dodge and zip through traffic in their stripped and gutted EFs, making them even more lightweight than ever.

Aaron's Take Although considered as "old-tech" or primitive by rapidly advancing technology, Hongyao has given modern touches to the 4th generation Civic, such as these Spoon Sports 4-piston front calipers, biting down on customised 2-piece rotors. These, coupled with other stopping necessities that include stainless steel braided brake hoses and upgrades from a Honda Civic EK9; such as its rear brake calipers and rotors give the EF9 immense stopping power.
Aaron's Take Back in the days when carburetors and direct fuel injection technology was still a norm, the Civic SIR EF9 represented the top of Honda's Civic lineup. While the lower tier models of the 4th generation Civic were either equipped with only the D-series motors and were SOHC (Single Over Head Cam), the EF9 received at that time, the DOHC (Dual Over Head Cam) B-series motor, along with state-of-the-art fuel injection and what became Honda's ever-popular proprietor technology; VTEC.

Aaron's Take The owner's passion is reflected strongly in his machine. Look at the pristine tail lamp. It was definitely no easy task sourcing for a replacement lamp, especially in today's age of stockists, where parts for Civics only come in ES and FD specifications. Truly, we're looking at a connoisseur here. That SIR badge just makes things brighter for Hongyao.
Aaron's Take As far as "Stuff Of Legends" go, this is possibly one of those rides that fit snugly into the leagues of the truly unforgettable automobiles of all times. As one of those vehicles that were heavily favourited by many during the days of rampant illegal racing, the Honda Civic has been labelled as a "... reckless, brutish brat with no regards for the law..." kind of machine. No thanks to its sordid history, many of these no longer exist in our tiny island state, where the piling number of severe crashes in the hands of their new owners and unforgiving COE system dissuaded many from retaining their once-treasured machines. Today however, it took more than just a stroke of luck. A miracle perhaps, if we were to justify this moment, forever frozen in time and image, to remember perhaps, what is the last of its kind here in Singapore...
