Are car forums slowly dying?

Anyone else feel the car forums just don't have the same "buzz" or activity in them like they used to? I personally think it's mainly down to these Facebook car groups and other social network sites, everything seems to be up forsale there these days, questions asked etc... there doesn't seem to be as many true enthusiasts making posts like they used to either IMO. I don't like the fact that "cars" have migrated with social networking if I'm honest, I like coming to places like this to avoid all the other crap posted on Facebook and the likes.

Anyone else have any thoughts of their own? I'm i just a bit "old school" even being 22?

Respect to all the guys that still make this first website I visit every time I open my browser :nice:

understand where you're coming from yeah. Quality not quantity though and we got plenty of quality here.

I do agree with what you're saying, some car forums aren't that good anymore but forums like this work well as said its quality not quantity on here.

The social network thing is pretty much because you can set up a facebook group for free vs paying hosting fee's, forum software, website etc.

There is so much information on this site and nearly every thing has been covered so when you have a problem you can find the answer through a search. If you get me. Could be wrong.

Totally agree with this! Would much rather be on here than Facebook etc. I don't even have facebook and from what I hear it's just all pretty much crap.

I despise of the Facebook car clubs or groups! Forums all the way, Keep the conversation alive!

I guess a lot of people enjoy the social side and talking about pointless things about there cars, not being harsh there.
And a lot of forum members shoot down what they consider a pointless thread etc. so for those people facebook is perfect as it's nice and easy to write a post and forget about it with out clogging the system up.

Yes agree Facebook is growing in the car fourms, way too many Honda this, Honda that groups, but for me has made buying car parts so much easier and to be fair cheaper

However it has it pitfalls....Dishonesty and Scammers :nono:

None of my mates are into cars, so Facebook offers nothing car wise too me. This forum is one of the best I think, a serious enthusiasts forum with some good knowledgable trustworthy people on. I think the danger of Facebook is a lot of miss-information, a lot of people who think they know what they are talking about. I'm on another forum and it is huge compared to here, with a lot of very long standing members, but that also means a lot of crap information floating about.

I run honda haven and we do a drag day.

I set up a page for it to advertise it and at the moment I sell more places thru the FB page than I do the site which is a pity and shows FB is slowly killing all forums.

X2 on that anyway.
Definitely agree too that stuff may be cheaper on some fb pages but I prefare buying a tiny bit more and having piece of mind that it's from a genuine seller etc.

I'll not be converting to FB "forum" anytime soon anyway.

So much **** gets posted on Facebook.

I prefer forums.

Facebook car pages seem to just be full of people trying to flog ****.

Dont think proper websites like this with sub forums etc will ever submit to facebook pages.

Local forums seem to be dead and moved to facebook now though, not too upset as most people on them wer spaks anyway...

My local forum will never die, but it's locked down tight and the 'approval process' is savage so we don't get many new members, which does tend to keep the charvers out. :D

+1

Hear a lot of folk getting scammed through facebook.

Agree with you here Kipper. Altho many of the ones that are on social media sites are ones I wouldnt want to be associated with haha.

Love it on here as there are some great builds and people always happy to help.

If I ever need advice or if I have to research a specific subject via past threads - such as looking into OEM dampers and springs like I did yesterday - the first port of call is always EK9.org. This is why the likes of Facebook will never compete with a decent forum.

It also applies to the marketplace; I've purchased a few parts on here and was quite happy with the overall process.
