I have been quiet for a while but know Im back
Unfortunately my B18C started smoking and burning a little bit of oil. No one could work out what was wrong with it as it only smoked under 3000 RPM and only after over run when I put my foot back down.
Any way after much deliberation I decided that I was going to rebuild it.
Lucky for me I work at Honda in Oxford so me and one of the master techs set about the task.
When we took the head off there seemed to be oil on one of the exhaust valve stems in cylinder 3, so I thought I might of got away with just head work untill we noticed a slight score in the same cylinder.
Rather than take a chance we had the whole thing apart.
I dont know and will probably never know what caused it to fail, all the techs at work said that the engine looks in amazing condition and looks like it hasnt covered many miles as there was no wear on cams, bearings and cylinders.
Unless the fact it hasnt done many miles has hindered me as things could of gone brittle.
I sent the head away for a light skim and to be pressure tested and all the valves seats to be recut.
I had the block honed to get rid of the score.
List of OEM Honda parts I replaced:
Sump Gasket
Valve Stem Seals
Head Gasket
Piston Rings
Connrod Bearings
Timing Belt
Tensioner
Head Bolts
Oil Pick Up Gasket
Oil Filter
Here are a few pictures that I took while we were working on it.
I know cant wait till I have it all run in so I can go have some fun in it again.
