My EK9 - Spoon Type One

Car is still looking ace! Some lovely pics and glad its getting well looked after. I will 2nd what Dunsy has said above, wheels are fine and no JDM price tag is best thing about them and they look great! Just because they dont have "Mugen" written on them folk will think their shite!

Who said anything about them having to be mugan or having spoon 1's all I was sayin is I wudnt have them to to normaly people with corsa's or saxo's n punto's have them on they are bit chavy and you could pick a set of rota's up cheaper than what halfrauds flog em at

Anyways dude your car n your opinion. But I must say it realy.is a lovely 9 :nice:

Thanks for the comments. Its all good :), everyone is entitled to their view, its good there are mixed opinions :nice:, if everyone liked and had the exact same stuff then the world would be more boring.

That is very true matey and I would love to have your engine in my 9 bet its awsome lol

Dam i rly miss that car and i always thought the wheels are briliant on it and the brakes look good through them nice tight fit. That engine is best B series i have drove and i have drove a few types all n/a .

Is there not gears or final drive u can change from a dc2 to make it accelerate quicker tht would be insane :nice:

plus i never new, was there a lightweight fly wheel on it or not?

Ye its an awesome car. I believe you can put the S80 from a dc2 on it or just changed the FD. Im tempted to put 4.7FD in it. Not sure about the flywheel, not had a look yet.

Nothing wrong with the wheels, they're light strong wheels and cheap too so what's not to like? MFactory gearbox components would take this car to the next level, looking good dude! Makes me wanna keep mine:)

I have a suspicion that the flywheel will be a spoon Number, its definatly lightened and with the rest of the engine/gearbox work that was done at type one id be surprised if they didnt put one in at the same time.

Just a quick update:

Changed the gearbox oil on Tuesday night as one or two gears were crunching slightly at high revs and reverse was getting quite hard to select. Firstly when I took the fill plug out of the gearbox quite alot of oil came out, then after I drained the rest of the oil there must of been about 3-3.5 litres in it so quite a bit too much, must have been filled at a different point by previous owner and too much put in.

Now Ive changed the oil after a short drive the gearbox is alot smoother, reverse goes in straight away and there appears to be no crunch at really high revs now :nice:

Well today is still quite a sad day as I have had to put my EK9 in storage. Steering rack has leaked slightly since I have owned the car in June and now it is leaking really bad so can't really drive it. Hoping to take the rack out and send off for a refurb within the next few weeks. I gave my 9' a clean and also paint renovated and polished the bonnet as was a bit dull compared to rest of car, turned out quite well:

All tucked away. (Don't worry, garage door is getting some paint soon)

Just a quick update. Been finding things to do while my EK9 is garaged. Took my Cusco front and rear strut braces off and got to work polishing them as they were a bit dull. Autosol worked great, pics aren't the best as was taken in bad light on phone. In first pic you can see the difference from the brace as it was and then the Autosol'd part:

Got some 'Gunk' which was a recommended de-greaser, gave it a quick test on the top front panel. It works great, going to do the whole engine bay soon:

Car has been moved to a different unit now and steering rack is coming out tomorrow to be sent off for refurb :nice:

When the steering rack is sorted, i'm going to do the following:

- Clean engine bay up with 'Gunk' and Autosol
- Clean underside of bonnet
- Hammerite radiator bracket, battery tie bar, power steering pump bracket
- Take shocks off and give them a clean and also check top mount bushings
- Possibly heatwrap manifold

There will be more things and looking at buying a few more parts :).

No they were on when I bought the car :nice:, Godfridge put them on.

Car is on axle stands at the minute as the steering rack has been sent off for a full refurb as the seals were knackered and then found out the internals were badly rusted, its costing me alot of money to get sorted but will be effectively a new rack then. Should have it back in on Saturday all been well :nice:

hi mate, thought i'd just stand up for you a bit. i think TD 1.2 are a great wheel, there look aggressive and as pointed out have good brake clearance, light and strong, and often used in motorsport. imo there are far to many cars out there with rota/spoon etc wheels so its good to be different.
oh did i mention i have a set lol :naughty:

car looks great anyway. :)

Thanks man! Ye I agree they look good, I think they look quite aggressive and are one of the only wheels that will fit on my car in 15's. Your car looks sweet aswell, I think me you and Kellsled are the only people running these wheels on this forum from what i've seen :nice:
