Do High Octane fuel really true with there claims??

its hard to no, my dad works and maintains rally cars, mostly evo's and up untill last year they ran shell turbo fuel (102 octance if i remember correctly) and this year due to the lack of work and the price of the shell fuel, they now run ordinary pump fuel (95) and they dont see a power loss in doing this, also a friend of mine has a turbo ek and recently got it mapped for super unleaded and he also didnt see a difference...

Will affect your torque more than anything and b-series do lack it..... I use silkoline/FUCHS octain booster it makes a difference........ €12 per L, Ireland gets the worst petrol of any country id say the uk isnt far off..... look at the power ratings from factory in japan ie, DC2 JDM is 198bhp where as DC2 UK spec is 189bhp...... or EG, SOHC 1.5 JDM 130bhp and uk is 115bhp and so on with most car makers, Its down to the Octain rating, we cant all afford to run cool blue, so just map for 95ron like most subaru and skyline owners have to, A re-map is a must to keep a engine in its best condition not just fully synthetic oil and brand filter........

yeah i believe man... i dont believe that much of a gain in power in torque....so i believe its not worth paying the difference of unleaded vs high octane fuel...here in the philippines super unleaded is price at P55/liter high octane fuel P62.30/liter .....

1.00 PHP= 0.0159060 EUR
Philippine Peso Euro
1 PHP = 0.0159060 EUR 1 EUR = 62.8695 PHP

thats how high fuel prices in our country

You guys are lucky for having high octane fuel! Here in Canada the highest octane we have is 94 which is expensive!! I use 91 in my ek9 and our regular gas is 87 which is at $1.18L

Different octane ratings over there though, 91 in US/Canada is like our 98.

are you sure? why would they have different ratings, everytime a fuel thread is up, people from the usa say we only have have 91 while you's have at least 95 in the uk/ireland, why would they say this if there 91 is higher than our regular pump fuel!?

you do realise that petrol in ireland is €1.52 per litre average?

1.52 EUR = 96.2891 PHP

so when your normal 95 unleaded is 96 peso maybe then you can bitch and moan about how dear your petrol is

our super unleaded that only very few stations in ireland actually do is 1.76 last time i checked so that would be 111 peso in your money

i hate it when people come on here and bitch and moan about there petrol prices being high, especially when yanks do as there petrol is cheaper than our water

As Kozy said, number doesn't means anything...your 87 octane petrol could be as good as our 95 or 98 fuel.

We have 95 and 98 octane fuel and 100 race fuel (shell VPower, OMW Carrera)

The 95 fuel price is around 1,45-1,5 euro / liter ($2,15 - 1,3 pounds)
The 100 octane petrol is 1,6 euro / liter (2,35$ - 1,4 pounds)

We buy the petroleum from Russia and I'm sure that our 95 octane is weaker/poorer than your 87 octans fuel.:)

Correct. They rate there fuel on a average of RON and Mon whereas we just list it as RON. There 95.8 rating fuel would be equivalent to the 100octane fuel available in the UK.

i dont realy know much about the octane and what ever but i do know when i 1st got my 9 i just put normal fuel in n then i started to fill up with shell vpower and i must say the car felt happier so i stick to it now i think it just runs smoother and better not faster realy but it feels better if that makes sence:nice:

Vpower or Momentum 99, just been to donington park today, ran momentum 99 (tesco super unleaded) and never noticed a difference compared to Vpower, except the 6p a litre difference :O so a saving of £4.50 on fuel for the day :D

dead on point, and the worst part is that the real price we should be paying is actually around 80 cent per liter but you know who to blame for this.

i know its stupid how much we pay per liter no1 else does but yet we just mutter under our brethes and pay it i bet the amaricans or any1 else wouldnt pay these prices

I bet you we would. Why because just about the entire world relies on Petrol Fuel. Without it the world won't turn. Our prices here in Hawaii have jump from $2.xx/gal to $4.65/gal and no matter how much we complain we still pay it.

Highest we have here is 92 Octane. If you have the money you can play with 100 for $10/gal lol.
Which I do plan to play with once I get my ECU and stuff (240SX, no EK. Sorry lol)

Dam that is expensive! I fill up my ek with $45 which is 28.64 pound

"In most countries, including Australia and all of those in Europe, the "headline" octane rating shown on the pump is the RON, but in Canada, the United States and some other countries, like Brazil, the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI, and often written on pumps as (R+M)/2). It may also sometimes be called the Pump Octane Number (PON)."

"Depending on the composition of the fuel, the MON of a modern gasoline will be about 8 to 10 points lower than the RON, however there is no direct link between RON and MON."

"Because of the 8 to 10 point difference noted above, the octane rating shown in the United States is 4 to 5 points lower than the rating shown elsewhere in the world for the same fuel."

Going back to the original question, yes high octane fuel is worth the money on cars designed or mapped to run on it.

EK9s are mapped to run on 100ron and most built engines are designed for at least 97ron. It means you can advance ignition, get more out of the engine. Running lower octane fuel on a car designed for higher risks detting the engine.
