Which OIL recommended for the B16b

BTW, don't forget about a baffled oil pan and magnetic drain plug...

what does the magnetic drain plug actually do?

picks up any metal particals in the oil

i dont have any magnetic drain plug currently, but planning to get them soon.

but i do have 2 magnet slap onto the oil filter :p
was reading thru some forums n i was like.. oh yea. i'll give it a try :p

where do you buy motul from then?, not seen it anywhere for a while.

I've read through this thread and still don't know what oil to buy lol

Can anyone give me an Oil that they have used and highly recommend? Live in Scotland so the climate is quite cold occasionally hot.

Motul 300V 5W40

and I got Silkolene Pro S 5W40 waiting for next oil change

Opie Oils

seems to be the place for mail order, it is not cheap tho.

but I do think the car revs much higher with it, beware it uses oil i you drive it hard

Anyone know where you can buy the proper recommended vtec oil from Honda? My local honda parts sale dont stock it.

opie oils depot is about 15 miles from where i live, my mate gets my oil from them 4 very very good price.:D

i think you may find it will consume more with the castrol in it, my uk dc2 used castrol semi synth like mad, also my local honda dealer was using and recomended me BP 0w-40 fully synth which burnt like crazy and the worst by far was mobil1 0w-40 it used to go through like 250ml in about 50 miles when not even driving it overly hard, it now runs on silkoline and burns a hell of a lot less, thats the only oil i would ever use now.

also oil pressure stays more stable with silkoline than what it does with castrol which helps

Your piston rings might be worned, check compression. I also don't experience ANY leakages and my rev limit is 9100rpm.

I just changed my oil today, and damn black man. I was like wtf? Since when did it get that dark? I think it's been just over 5000kms...maybe been revving too hard.

I use Castrol edge 0W-40 and Motul 5W-40. I just topped up Motul today.

I've got the SPOON magnetic drain plug for my Oil pan and Transmission pan.

Today, when I pulled out the bolt, the oil was damn black, The magnetic tip was even more BLACK. Started rubbing off the crap on the magnetic tip and it's just very very fine black stuff. Couldn't see much as it was too fine.

I wouldn't bother using such expensive oils unless it was a brand new engine. SPOON chief said that its a waste of money.

main reason for oil going dark is overfuelling, you on aftermarkey ECU JUGBUGZ?

While he did say it was not necessary...be wary of that context. Irregardless, I think most of us do fall into that category....where the majority of our mileage is due to daily driving.

However, if you intend to or have a tendency to drive on the track or very hard on a daily basis... Spoon uses Motul for a reason and NOT the factory blended oils for competition applications.

Running excessively rich will contribute to that factor...but not as much as blow-by where the oil ring has been worn....the crankcase ventilation system is also a contributing factor to how much blow-by is experienced even when everything is in working order.

So can I take it that motul oil is highly recommended? But should I use semi-synthetic or fully synthetic? When I had my toyota levin a mechanic at toyota told me not to use fully synthetic in it as it would drink it and the engine in that was fairly modded so should the same apply to a honda engine?

i dont own the car no more, but since its been on silkolene its not been to bad, i think maybe when u use different oils and different grades and chop and change it must cause problems on the oil control rings, i dont think the compression rings/ bores are bad as it made good power on the rollers recently, no visible smoke running on silkoline either.... but big clouds of it with mobil 1... strange

After all this debate and stuff i have read on other forums etc i think i will be using silkolene pro S 5 - 40 in my EK9,,
ester based proper fully synth oil,,
I have been using silkolene comp 2 premix in my 2 stroke motocross bikes for ten years and never had a problem,,

i m using motul htech 100plus 5w-30 on my b16a

been using ever since i got my ride. very good oil

btw, i m from malaysia. its freaking hot here all the time except @ nite
