robthedoc's ek9 turbo, adventures in boost!

Hahaha aye man another zero progress day. Got to stop drinking. Every pint I buy is lost horse power lol

Haha I was trying to keep it quiet. How's the teg mate?
It's doing well buddy! Front bumper sat up in the garage ready to go on and get painted and that's the whole car done! Other costs keep putting it off though, like a snapped drop-link and a bucket load of bushings to replace! ;)

Nice one mate. I'm glad it's all coming together for you. Theres still a teg sized gap in the fence at the glen lol.

Wee update for anyone whos not aware of the plan. So the original plan was to do a relatively small turbo build on the ek9 over the Easter break. Having listened to some of the guys on here I decided on using go autoworks for a turbo kit rather than piece it together myself. So plan A was turbo b16b with the view to build a b18 while the car was running and eventually swap them over. That plan lasted about three days. So after serious consideration and a change of personal circumstances I decided to go all out and build the b18 now and upgraded the turbo from a gt28 to gt30. So I bought an aerodeck vti and took the engine out. This engine is now at the machine shop for a 0.5 overbore and any crank work if required. Hopefully the bottom end will be back next week at some point and I will start the work on the b16b cylinder head. Also expecting the turbo kit to arrive in the next two weeks hopefully. However with a stag weekend tomorrow and Hondafest the following week I don't think I will be in a fit state to do much for a week or two. Keep an eye out for updates... Hopefully this car will be built and running by... soon. Thanks for all the kind words. I hope people are enjoying watching it come together.

Well after a few wild weekends and a small fortune pissed away the sh*ts about to hit the fan. Engine cant be assembled as the bearings I got are no good. Go Autoworks have now dispatched the turbo kit and I'm miles away from being ready to put this thing together. Going to get some essentials ordered today.

whats up with your bearings?
I have some brand new oem ones here depending on size.

I'm using a catch can I got made with 2 10AN ports off my rocker cover, an AN10 port from the PCV plug and AN10 from another plug in the back of the block
i got my stuff from here
http://www.brfittings.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=36
the fittings were really soft, so one of the two block port fittings I had got chewed up but luckily he'd sent the PCV plug adapter by accident so I run it off there.
catch can has two large 32mm breather filters on top
my car breathes reallu heavy and this seems to cope just fine :)

Thanks Nicole that's a massive help. I might have a go a building my own but time is really against me now!

The mains I got had been opened before and either test fitted and turned over or damaged in transit, I don't know but there was no way they were going to be fitted. I just need standard size mains if you have them??

I used a aluminium water bottle with hose barbs screwed in to it. And then drilled a hole for a filter. Built in drain aswell.

Sorry man should have included you in the list of people I asked.

Your set up sounds good to me! I'm thinking about just buying the fittings and filters and welding up a rectangular can. Can't understand how some of the kits cost £££s there nothing to them?

I've got a ghetto style can(obviously)
Basically a cheap eBay can with the top cut off and a wider filter neck welded on with a wider filter(pit bike 44mm intake filter iirc)
Then 4 hose barbs welded on aswell.
ATM I'm only running 3 lines(no 4th line from block ATM) and I run a drain back, I was filling the can after 20-25mins on track before I went drain back(engine was in perfect condition back then)

As you said already I cannot be spending huge money on a box with a filter on top....
Mine looks ghetto as **** and is abit of a pants effort but it works well enough for now...

As Nicole said, all of my engines(that's 4 if you include the 2nd rebuilt block) have breathed really heavy and I suspect my can is alittle on the small side(half litre).
I can also smell it in the cabin alittle if you pay attention to it although I've got a small gap in the firewall grommet so I get to smell everything lol

I ran one -10 outlet from valve cover to catch can. Then a drain from catch can to the black vent box behind the block (pcv deleted). I also welded a -8 fitting to the oem vent port on the valve cover and connected this to the drain back line via a ally t piece. Then added a filter to the top of the catch can. My catch can is actually a mishimoto one and I modified it a little by tapping an additional port on the side. Catch can wasn't cheap lol bit its well made and looks awesome think I would go custom can next time. Been fine runs clean.

Nice one guys thanks for all the input appreciated... I'm thinking I can probably make a semi decent set up myself for a fraction of the price so will go for that. I will no doubt be hitting you all up for more help over the next couple of days, weeks, months, years until it's finished or I give up lol
