robthedoc's ek9 turbo, adventures in boost!

update... so everything has ground to a halt, engine has been at the machine shop for weeks, overbore and surface grinding is done but they don't have the facilities to balance the crank etc. So the brank flywheel and clutch cover is now at Jem engines and should be back today. I doubt it. Got some other bits and pieces done while I've been waiting...

I don't know about fitment as I don't have an engine to fit it to atm but, the top welding lecturer at the college I work at was seriously impressed with the workmanship. Turbo is way bigger than I thought, more disco pumpkin than potato :nice:

Got an s2000 master cylinder and made up a spacer. It's not the prettiest thing in the world but it will work...

Went for an un-sprung clutch and as soon as it arrived I immediately regretted that decision. Just looking at it makes me hate traffic lights.

Still got so much to do and nothing seems to be happening. Have a deadline for japfest 2 now so really need to start moving. But when this came up for sale I could not help myself. Went halfers with a mate and I'm almost convinced it is the best car I have owned...

1985 3rd generation AH civic. Got the car and complete b16 conversion including engine, box, loom, shafts, hubs, brakes and brand new hasport mounts. Couldn't resist as it was a bargain. Will make a new build thread for it soon.

So finally the crankshaft has been balanced, and the engine block machine work finished. Time to build an engine...

Good luck bud.
Sure you'll be fine though.

Thanks man. Been a while since I did any assembly work but hopefully it will be plain sailing. Fingers crossed anyway.

So the engine building is well under way, to be totally honest I am enjoying it but it's hard going. Engine has been through two machine shops, one of these twice. First time was for overbore and hone at browns engineering, second time was JEM engines for crank clutch and flywheel balancing. Got it all back to the garage and started to assemble and hit a wall almost instantly. Using arp main studs rather than the bolts, the torque for the studs is higher than the torque for the bolts and in in order to use them the main bearing housings had to be line bored. Back to JEM engines it went and it is now back and the build continues...

love this thread, brings back fond memories of building mine and collecting bits :D

theres a guy local to me a with a mint boosted D 3G civic, absolutely love it, was quicker than an ek9 even when it didnt have a turbo :D

Thanks guys. The 3rd gen is the most fun I think you can have with a car. It's such a laugh to drive. Smiles per gallon
