Rob's EK9 Progress

Thanks buddy!

Yeah it has been a proper coont! Had another bash today but still no joy. So definitely looking at getting it done now. :D

Some more updates!

With the car off the road for a while now I was getting the itch to drive it and with the weld on the inlet not quite holding properly it was doing my head in! I do have a friend of a friend who could weld it back but wouldn't be able to do it for a few days or more and without any wheels it was going to be hard work getting there. I thought it would be a good idea to source a second hand one and then I wouldn't be in a rush for the repair.

After a few calls and a bit of luck I found one! Was a good price to so I snapped it up!

Was a bit grubby but the part code on it was correct so I wasn't worried.

While I was cleaning I noticed an extra coolant pipe next to the main one and this was not present on my original mani so it looks like it is from a pre facelift car. No problem tho just had to bung the pipe.

After a good scrub inside and out!

Came up a treat and also went on this time with no problems!

I bought myself a little treat before the mani gave up.

An ITG Maxogen enclosed intake :p overall the condition was good but the carbon was looking a bit dull so I gave it a little cut and polish before it went in.

Half and half

On the car!

Only been on a few days now and it's very quiet intake but it means I can hear the exhaust better now. Is a very good bit of kit I think. I now have a lot more midrange torque which has make the vtec crossover a lot smoother which felt really wierd at 1st! But I am starting to get used to it now and it does feel better to drive just not such an event!

Also with the thermal gasket in place the inlet manifold only gets luke warm now, which should help things a hell of a lot!

I made a short video but please excuse the camera moving at 1st.

thanks Matt!

I did see the thread and didn't realise it was tomorrow! Not sure I've got enought monies left this month already! :nerv:

Shame really would of been good to hoon it down there with you.

just noticed the video don't work! I'll get on that.

Right it's been a while since my last update and the lack of funds has been the problem! So I have just been enjoying motoring about.

However the other day I spotted this lurking in the shed!

It actually from the mini we have sat on the drive. (in bits for over 5 years!)

When I fitted the Maxogen intake I had to re route the cold air feed and this ment it came up short. So I have been trying to sort a longer piece of pipe but after finding this little gem I now don't have to.

I got lucky and the size of the ducting was 95mm the same size as my piping. :D This made for a super tight fit and no messing with any tape etc.

I just needed to find a way to mount it. So with a rivet gun and some flexible metal strip I came up with this.

The screw will go into the tab on the bumper. Like so.

This is looking up into the new scoop.

It looks far away from the bumper but the outer edge is aginst the bumper and the mouth of the scoop is bigger than the cut out in the bumper so does fit very nicely.

It now means that the pipe has plenty of length and now fits into the pipe on the Maxogen.

Really chuffed with my free upgrade! I think the intake is a bit louder now it has a more direct flow of air but then again it could be in my head!

And a final picture after a few hours work

Oh and thanks for all the past comments. :))

A few more updates!! Has been a while :p

The nine was converted to MPH when I got it from the dealer however I had noticed that it still had the speed limiter on as all the wires on the ECU where untouched. So when I had a spare day I finally got round to sorting it!

All that was needed was to run a wire from the converter, behind the clocks, to the ECU. Just needed to figure out which wire to cut on the ECU!

Soon got that sorted.

I was very surprised to see how basic the speed converter was.

With that now sorted, if I ever do a track day etc. I'll have no issues :))

Managed to get my ass up to JAE for the day and bought something new!

Got a nice clean battery stay from Teshi as the old one was looking a bit shabby!

Also gave that area a bit of a wipe down. Was looking a bit rough!

My next plan is to clean up the old manifold heat sheild!

Has defo seen better days so watch this space.

All comments welcome as always.

Cheers Dan! I wasn't sure if it was really worth getting a new battery stay but now its on there does look a million times better :))

Well I finally got round to finishing the repair on the Carbon Base plate :woot: I had trouble sanding it down and getting a decent finish on it, so I was finding it hard to find the motivation for it.

Anyway here's some before and after pictures of the damage and some of when it was fitted when I 1st got it.

Also gave it a good wax before it goes on. The repair isn't totally amazing but is probably the best it will be.

The trial fit.

Will get a better shot of it in the next couple of days :))

Oh and here is the weight difference!

Thanks

First time I have read this thread & I'm loving your work!

Keep it up mate!:nice:

Very nice 9, you have put a lot of work into it. You got any more plans? :)

Nice 9 bud. Outta curiosity...where did you get the baseplate from? Seems a good fit

Thanks guys! :nice:

It was from that scammer (Him520) that stitched quite a few of us up and I was one of the 6 that got one, luckily. Although they all had some kind of damage. :(

The fit is ok. The back edge is not perfectly straight so is noticeable against the window.

The only plans I really have are to tidy up any little niggles. I will hopefully get a stainless manifold when funds will allow so that could be a long way off yet. The wheels could do with touching up too as they are starting to look a bit shabby. Not much really but things always change so we'll see :p

Ah right. That's cool like. Plans sound good like. Really liking this 9 for its cleanliness :win:

Love the spoiler base plate. Nice touch
