Rob's EK9 Progress

Shame about the rust, but atleast now you know your 9 is minty fresh:drool:

RoEk9: thanks mate. Yeah you will not regret it and it's defiantly worth the wait! :)

Cheers Elchunk!

Hopefully have some more updates in a couple of days :naughty:

Wow that looks amazing! What were the main areas apart from the rear arches that need work?
Where did you get this all done??

Sean: The rust only cropped up because it was previously repaired badly at some point in Japan, which was a shame because as usual it made things worse in the long run. I am glad it's all sorted tho and I can enjoy owning it even more! :nice:

Thanks for all the nice comments guys makes it even more worth while.

The rust can potentially crop up anywhere but I had a small amount of surface rust where the skirt sits against the sill, nothing to really worry about tho.

The lip of the rear arch is the worst place because it gets a lot of abuse from the weather and stones etc.

I had the work done by a guy, local to me, who works out of an old barn. It's his own business and he works alone most of the time. I think he gets all his business from word of mouth as he has no website etc.

Thanks again.

Well a small update, I've now fitted the C pillar brace and it went in a treat! :nice:

I also needed some new bumber clips as a few had fallen to bits!

Bit of an ebay special but they turned out to be really good quality!

Another job to be done soon!

Updates! :nice:

Well I've had a few days off so got busy with the car!

I started with the rear number plate recess as I could see the filth that was around the edges but couldn't get to it with out removing the lot and found all this dirt behind it!

Some more updates!

So finally got the paint on the wipers after a lot of preperation.

They came out a hell of a lot better than I thought.

So inbetween painting the wipers I made a start on fitting the new thermal inlet gasket and turned out to be a bit of a bigger job than I 1st thought.

I was trying to remove all the old gasket without taking the mani all the way out.

It was really on there but after a lot of persuation I'd got it off as was ready for the new one. Stuck it on and started to tighten the bolts and I heard a big loud BONG!

Crack right next to the coolant line! FEK!

With my new friend Mr Crack the mani had to come right out to be repaired. :(

Nice big gap where it should be.

With it off the car it now ment I could give it a big clean and it was pretty minging inside so was worth it in the long run.

Much better!

Also I had decided to do the coolant bypass for the throttle body to further help keep the temperatures down.

To fix the crack a friend had recommended some stuff called Durafix which is rods of aluminium that can be heated with just a hot handheld blowtorch. Had to wait a few days for this arrive tho!

It finally came today so my old man got the mani mounted on a flat surface ready to be repaired.

Prepped ready.

After a lot of heat and some smoking wood! The rod started to melt on the metal and the fix looked really good.

So I bunged it back on the car earlier in the hope it was fixed. I gingerly tightend all the nuts and bolts back up and after a bit of research in the correct order this time!

It was all back together but couldn't test if the repair was water tight till I started the car back up.

It all looked good then I noticed a very small leak of coolant :angry2: so it had to come back off. Hopefully the repair tomorrow will sort it but won't be able to do that untill after work.

Fingers crossed! :nice:

Wipers turned out great man :D

Unfortunate about the crack though, its always something you least expect. Hopefully you get it sorted without any problems, I think your problem describes my signature perfect lol.

Great work with the wipers came out savage! Hopefully you get the mani sorted dude!! :)

Cheers Jimbo! Yeah went in a treat, even passed the MOT with it in!

Thanks guys! I am really chuffed with them now. When I look back at the pictures they where really bad!

My heart sank when it went as it's not exactly a cheap part. This stuff seems to be really good just didn't quite get enough on there 1st time round.

M.1. Haha yeah that is a good quote. Does fit the bill quite nicely.

Can't wait to get back on the road and see what difference it's made!

i had the exact same crack happen to my old manifold when i was tightening it back up!!!! what a bummer :(

Yeah it is a proper pain in the back side! I did a search after it had happened and it did come up with quite a few hits! Still it's nice to not be the only one.

Had another bash at repairing it again still no joy! I've had it on and off 4 times now  getting pretty good at it! So we'll see what tomorrow brings hopefully will be sorted. I'm starting to get nine fever having not driven it for a couple of weeks!

robbie loving the car, i went to fit an ITR manifold to my b16a and it cracked just next to the main coolant pipe, i recommend getting it properly welded to avoid any further problems, I had mine done and have run atleast 5000 miles without a hickup, due to the nature of cast ally its an absolute cnut to weld , pre heating is a must
