Oil advice and recommendations here!

Is this totally OK for a road car then, as it says it is for race cars?

Only asking because Redline do oils for race cars too and advised me to never use it?

I guess the two could be totally different though.

The 300V range is suitable for road use except the 0w-20

Cheers

ive only had silkolene in all my cars find it great im my ek9 i changed it every 5k doesnt burn much for the driving i do would reccomend it!!!

10w 30 is good for a honda D16 motor with 117,000 miles on it ? the climate here never goes below 10 c

that's fine. It's a D-series! I have over 450,000 on my D15B7 and use 10w30 also.

I'm using Castrol Edge 0w30 fully. My EK9 has done 69k. Only been using it for a month seems to be ok so far. Not sure what she was using prior to that tho as only had the car 5 months!

Yep thats fine, it may use a bit though.

Thanks for that!

Is there any particular reason that it may use more of this oil and if yes, is that healthy? Reason for asking is that the oil which was in there before the change had been in there for 5 months, not sure what grade it was but never had to top it up at all!
Cheers :)

Because of the low viscosity the 0w-30 can have a habbit of burning of, it does not harm.

5w-40 is fine for all year round use, no need to change grade.

I dont dont how much your baffled sump will affect thre capacity.

Valvoline DuraBlend here, best oil for under 50-60. Tested with strongest film on the components. Let me search that test ;)

Edit: here it is: http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil Tests.pdf

Ahh, that old chestnut.

They use the falex test, which is total bollox when it comes to engine oils. Looks impressive and the fluids that give the best results are cutting fluids... There was once a test where on the falex machine they proved that milk, beer and good ol piss were giving better results then the oils.

lol

Then what should I look at? All there is to find are personal findings and experiences and of course most of them are not objective and quantifiable.

In short, any premium well branded synthetic is ideal and will be good. The best of these are ester based synthetics. These are expensive and very good and they will have ester written on the tub as they will want you to know about it.

Motul, Fuchs, Silkolene, Mobil, Castrol (not magnatec) all good stuff.
