JDM EK9 Race car project nearing completion

I am hitting the track on Friday - will post up video as soon as I can after that, promise!

Until then, this'll have to do:

YouTube - EK9 Civic Type R takes chequered flag

This was when the car was making less power, on crap suspension, and OEM exhaust with Honda N1 c pipe.

This is from the very first race meet the car was entered in, when it won a race!

Yo Tim, car looks a tad different to when i saw it at NIMM, looks mint with the RG's, Ali:nice:

A TAD :)

Yeah I think the wheels are the big drawcard at the moment - the body has yet to be tidied up, I haven't bothered with too many cosmetics until I get the handling sorted out.

I know its fast in a line, just have to get it to turn :D

omg beautiful pics of engine bay thank you :nice: i noticed you dont have a catch can, you might benefit from one...

Thanks!

This is an old pic - I now have a 1 litre catch can sitting just underneath the strut brace on the left hand side of the engine bay (motorsport regs dictate the size).

hmm, do you have a cf bonnet and hatch? Or is that painted mat?

Thanks!

very nice, i'd like to see a pic of the catchcan set up when you get chance

I have a carbon hatch on the way - but won't be using it for racing as carbon tends to shatter in an impact. So for racing I will use a lightened (read: single metal skin) hatch with lexan glazing.

The bonnet is a custom fibreglass job to replace the OEM bonnet. It weighs just less than 6kg - it's lighter than many other bonnets, including carbon. About the only bonnet lighter is the Back Yard Special single skin carbon/kevlar bonnet - but the price is like

This bonnet cost about 150 quid :nice:

I raced today at the test day - successful day, set a personal best in the car so I'm pleased with how it turned out. On the down side I had a bit of an off and bent the front guards and bumper, as well as cracking the flares :(

Oh well there's the excuse I needed to install a FEELS wide body kit :)

Nice, do you have any photos of the track day? :drive:

Geez, you better get a CF bonnet soon... It's much stronger than just single skin fibre glass.

If you could, please post a video incar of how your car performs... :nice:

awesome, pics with bodykit needed:nice:

good luck on this seasons racing, come on ek9!

Did you installed the carbon fiber trunk ?

Wow, sorry guys, dropped off the face of the earth for a while...

Here's the latest pic:

The side skirt will be getting painted very soon, and there will be a front splitter and rear diffuser added also.

At the moment the car is without brakes, awaiting a six pot setup

Last time out had a bit of an off, so went to work on more improvements.

End of this year will be a rebuild of some sort for the engine, probably 300hp B16a turbo, as they are very very cheap to build down here. Complete running engines are only $500 in local money, that's about $150 pounds!

oh wow...looking good..The airwalker front bumper I'm assuming? I'm liking the rims too.

Back Yard Special - lots of JDM points :p

I chose the bumper because it has a flat lower surface so it can mate nicely to the front splitter. The OEM bumper's lower lip is curved, making it hard to get a nice simple-looking finish.

It also has nice big intake points for brake ducting, which I'm gonna need soon :secret: I have SpeedFactory carbon canards to go on as well, maybe this weekend!

But still needs mesh and little touch ups here and there.

These wheels are Koya "Drift Tek". 17x8 +35 offset. Will take anything up to a 235 wide tyre :wow: But I will run slightly undersize to keep the OD as small as possible. I bought them for a steal, less than $1000 New Zealand money - about 300 pounds sterling!
