so on the 21/05/2011, we headed out to the garage for a full day to completely change the feel, and look, of the car. a picture of the loaded car:
we got to the garage early so thought i'd get a 'before' shot of the transformation:
Once inside, i helped get all the parts for installation together. a few pics:
the Calipers were purchased from Beardy and the brakelines were purchased from MWTech, both through this site
thanks to everyone who helped with identifying the nut sizing in this thread:
http://www.ek9.org/forum/tyre-wheels/24579-wheel-nut-size.html
the car was then put up the ramp to enable the work to commence... it was quickly established the Ohlins suspension had certainly taken a turn for the worse - both front dampers were leaking oil and both rear dampers are completely gone as there is no rebound whatsoever! a few (shocking) pics:
i took the opportunity to take a picture of the wheels whilst they were off the car and compare the AD08 and RS2 tyres:
the brake calipers and lines were installed first:
The KW coilovers don't come with top mounts so we used the oem ones but we upgraded the rubbers. A few pictures:
i thought it would be of interest to compare the oem dampers to the Ohlins to the KWs. a picture:
the very worn Ohlins suspension fully removed:
the new set up:
the 'after' picture:
pictures of the no-longer de-spoilered DC5 in the car park:
and home:
the car feels much better now as the suspension actually absorbs the road surface and i'm happy with the visual changes of the wheels and brakes. i've not had much chance to test the brakes but they feel very similar to the oem calipers, which i highly rated. i'd be interested on people opinions of the stance as we weren't sure how low to go!
the oem suspension and oem calipers will be up for sale soon plus the Ohlins, which i will probably give away for parts!
