Title: XYZ, D2 and K-Sport story.

I am in the car parts(especially tuning) wholesale business. We are the exclusive EBC and Goodridge dealers in Romania and we also are official dealers for Powerflex, Bilstein, Tarox, and AP. As you can see we are accustomed with only serious suppliers.
I am writing this article hoping that no one will have the same bad luck as we did.
Because I received a lot of advertising emails from XYZ, I decided to give XYZ a try because I needed a suspension that was only available from them. I ordered 4 suspensions and a brake kit. The delivery time was supposed to be 7-10 days but they didnt respected it and the order was ready for dispatch after 21 days!!!. One of the suspensions did not fit and one of the brake kits came with the wrong bolt pattern.

I wrote to my sales agent and after sending pictures and making a lot of measurements during a whole week, she gave me the solution: the return of the items is not accepted because is not their fault they did not fit. The only argument they had was:”we sold these to a lot of customers and they dind not had any problems with them”

I modified the brake kit and fitted it but after 100km the rotors started to vibrate and when we checked them, the aluminium hats were deformed and not because of the heat but because the material was too weak for this type of application. I contacted the sales agent but the answer came a lot faster this time: improper usage, no warranty.

I advise all potential buyers to stay away from the 3 Taiwanese brands: XYZ, D2 and K-Sport, they are all made in the same factory, all parts are interchangeable and all share the same low quality and absolutely no warranty.
- The package and the paint quality of their products is very high but at a closer look you will recognize a cheap “made in China” design who does not worth the money(480$/coilover and 780$/330mm brake kit).
- The suspension hardness is adjustable but the difference between the hardest and softest settings is imperceptible and the shocks are very fragile(after only 3 trackdays there was a lot of play on the front shocks on a MK5 GTI).
- The diameter of the calipers` pistons in their brake kits is the same for all cars and in many cases they are a downgrade instead of an upgrade, the pistons surface being smaller that the one from the oem caliper. The 6 pot caliper has is in fact a 2 piston caliper. Despite the fact it has 3 pistons/side, 2 of them have 35mm diameter and the third has only 25mm. The total area is 2415mm² which is smaller than the area of almost any oem caliper(a standard Golf MK5 caliper has 57mm diameter piston with an area of 2551mm)

I think every one knows it at this stage now, they are budget makes and low quality, even though some of d2 stuff is ok like lcas. Still thanks for the info.

i beg to differ on the warranty end of things and as well as quailty in regard to D2 racing sport, i was a super dealer for 18 months to 2 years for D2 racing and i had only 1 set of coilovers back which was two rubber bushings which d2 gladly replace, the only thing they didn't replace under there limited warranty are top mounts, xyz are made in the same place but are defo not like k-sport or d2 racing in built terms,
i am no longer a dealer (now replaced with tein and bc racing) as i don't like how they do business regarding to how they treat there dealers but customer service to the end user was ok

A very interesting read to be sure.

There is an XYZ equipped DC2 race car here in New Zealand and it is currently the fastest NA Honda race car in the country (being two litre helps though I'm sure). It is running XYZ brakes and suspension as far as I know.

There have always been the same stories circulating about any product, and it comes of no surprise that stories from XYZ should be any different.

My 330mm brake kit came from the same factory as the XYZ/D2/K-Sport kits and so far for a racing application they have been faultless, especially with Pagid pads!

Remember the four and six pot caliper kits give an improvement in pedal feel, as well as an even distribution of pad pressure across the pad (rather than just in the centre like most OEM calipers). Wilwood brake kits usually have a smaller total piston size than OEM, but the savings in unsprung weight and actual clamping pressure (especially with a pedal box) are so much better for racing applications. These benefits would surely be lost on the average road car?

I have aheard stories about the like of Skunk2 and Buddy Club suspension kits, to name but a few. In fact one of my Skunk2 shocks blew out after track use, and I was lucky to find a replacement (out of a wrecked car) as the dealer here didn't want to know. It was also inside the warranty period.

In my experience (here in New Zealand at any rate) drivers tend to think that harder and lower is better, but it is seldom the case, especially for road driving. While fine for looks the cars that are imported from Japan into NZ are usually slammed to the floor pan and come with crazy spring rates as high as 20kg/mm!!!

Anyone will tell you that the life of the shock with such heavy springs will be reduced, especially if the roads are not of good quality...

There is a market for cheap parts though, so expect these stories to keep recurring for a while yet!

cheap brands like this get a lot of publicity at the likes of edc and time attack...but only because they are practically given to the drivers at huuuuuuge discounted rates, i was offered ksport big brake kit myself with a large chunk off, and although i can see the appeal of this to people wanting to reduce costs, when you look at some of the car builds in that competetion, the extra few hundred really would be **** all to get your hands on some mint AP's, Endless, MU etc

ksport dont even have a sniff at these in my opinion

It's worth noting the Wilwood calipers come in 2 options for their 4 pot calipers, either with a 35.1mm or 44.5mm set of pistons. The 35.1mm pistons do work out with a smaller piston area than standard calipers, but the 44.5mm 4 pots offer a total area larger than both standard single piston caliper and the XYZ 6 pots.

D2 Racing is far far far from being like the dog S***T that is XYZ,

We are also a wholesale for D2 and we have had only 1 set back in well over 18 months and that set wasnt actually faulty the guy who fitted them hadnt greased the treads and couldnt undo the lockin collars, they are by far one of the best budget brands out there, and at the end of the day you get what you pay for. There after service is very good, half the problem is people not knowing how to fit and set up the suspension properly an getting there mate down the pub to set it up, the other half is made up of people who do not give you feedback and would rather go on a public forum and ask people to telopathically fix there problems an guess at what it might be or what they should do about it.

If i had spent a good chunk of my wages on something that isnt performing to what i expect id be back at the seller i bought it from asking for advice, this again is where most people fall flat because they choose to trade with bedroom motorsports who can provide no expert advice or after sales care and 9/10 dont want to know after they have taken your money

the brakes they hand out to races and sponsorship cars is probably not the same sh*t as they knock out the back door to general punters
