Hi all. So today i decided to run a boost leak test on suspecion my boost pipes maybe leaking as some a joined together. To my absolute amazement they held 43 psi! 3 bar of pressure without weeping a drop!! But what i did notice was the back if the turbo compressor housing was leaking air. Granted it was well over the boost pressure it will ever see see but still should it be a cause of concern? The engine was of course not running at the time but would it make a difference if it was actually being driven with the turbo constantly supplying air to the pipes. It was tested hot and cold and made no differance to it. Oil does not leak past the seals on the turbo either.

If it's the part I think you mean there is a seal round there.
Perhaps try nipping the bolts up, if not check the seal. Easy job to pull the compressor housing off.

EDIT: well there is on my turbo so I'd expect most to have them...

Thanks for your reply jesse. Before i installed the turbo i had the housing off to clean it, there wasnt no o ring in the middle just metal to metal, i did losen it whilst it was on the car to rotate it just wondering if i upset the alignment of it in the process.. Also you said yours leaks but by how much? My pressure dropped around 2 psi a second.

I didn't say mine leaks?
I'm 95% mines got a seal on that area.
What turbo you got? Perhaps look at full rebuild kits and have a look for a large round seal?

Ah sorry i miss-read it. Im just gonna whip the housing off clean the edges and try some high temp sealant around it see if that works. Id go for an o ring but did a google search last night and found that other people that have fitted one said it made it worse because the of the gap it creates. Its a tb2804 basically a garrett t3/t25 hybrid
