wiring in gauges

Yes i know after my car not starting disaster I should probably leave wiring alone, but I'd like to atleast know whats involved before I pay someone to do to

I've got Spa boost and temp gauge with all the wiring, and a stack pressure gauge without any wiring. all digital.

the stack instructions say use 18 gauge wire, but it doesnt seem that readily available or a common unit of measurement over here. any ideas what sort of wire would be suitable?

Also, I want them to dim with the dash lights - what do I need to do to achieve this? I'm guessing I can use some sort of splice connector, but from where?

In my starlet I used mechanical ones for this very reason and used my phone to light them up lol!

For the illumination you can tap into any wire that switches live when the lights are turned on.
Most common places are at the steering column wiring, the dash clocks, the radio or the cigarette lighter(if illuminated). I personally would solder a wire onto them, but if that's not your thing you could pick up some of these:
