Which B Series gearbox has the shortest ratios?

This has probably been covered a million times, but I'm just looking for a quick answer.

A mate off mine has a 96 Spec DC2, and the gearbox has gone on him. He needs a replacement, and is after one with the shortest standard ratios.

He has been told to use a Y21 box, but I would have thought the S80 LSD 96 spec would have the shortest ratios and the smallest FD?

Can anyone suggest the best replacement?
 
the y21 probably has the shortest ratio as standard but its cable operated not hydraulic. The next is probable the 98 spec S80 but the jump to 4th and 5th ruin's it unless its in a teg. a 4.7 and the 96 spec S80 would be nice as well as a 4.7 FD in a S4C gearbox. The 4.9 and 5.1 ratio's are a bit much for a daily driver but a hoot to drive! HTH
 
^the y21 is a hydro box not a cable box

the 96 spec s80, y21/s21, s4c all have the same ratios and all have the same final drive

the 4th and 5th gears in the 98 spec s80 are longer than in the other boxes

best box imo is a 98 spec s80 with a 96 spec 4th gear and keep the oem 5th for cruising

the s80's are overall better box's as they have lsd's
 
I've definitely seen a cable Y21, or was it Y1. Hell im confused now! :(

the ek9's S4C also has a LSD.

If you can get a ITR 98 spec box at a good price go for it:

Code and information of the ITR 98 Spec box: S80 w/LSD + NE3 (ne3 code means it has a 4.78 final drive)

If for some reason you only find a 96spec (S4C) gearbox just get a oem final drive, and you'll have a "98 spec" itr box, this is what I got in my EK9.

Some users install EK9 S4C 4th and 5th gears on the S80 ITR 98 Spec box, I really don't know why, since I've never done this mod, but I recommend you to go to the team mfactory site and use the gear calculator.

96 spec s80 or s4c from ek9 from standard.Im running a 96 spec box with 4.9 final drive and its great fun
