Has anyone used Muteki SR48 nuts? I have been looking at Skunk2 nuts too but I'm not sure about alloy over steel.

I would just use a set of steel ones. They're all going to turn to rust anyway.

I've got these in Neo Chrome; really durable finish. No marks from mounting them several times. Bought them because I fancy steel over aluminium for this application.

I presume that aluminium used for other lug nut brands is properly selected for their application but I'm tracking my car so I've decided to go for steel ones.

I'd never use anything apart from steel nuts.

Driftworks have a good range of them.

I've found them for a reasonable price. I was just unsure of the safety aspect of alloy over steel. Yes Skunk2 are a good brand but is alloy just as safe a steel?

Hmm, I'd still use steel.

I'd rather have some rock solid steel nuts that were black then some "super light JDM yo purple fan boy" nuts that will strip the moment you tighten them up.

Also, they hold the wheels on - would you chance it?!

Let's say no :) althought brand names use high strenght aluminium, I won't comment brands that don't even specify the material which the lug nuts are made of, it is still aluminium and has a lower failure elogation than steel used for this application.

While the tensile strenght of this high strenght aluminium can exceed the one from steel, the effects of higher temperatures on it, at least over a longer period of time, is what makes me recommend and use steel over aluminium for this application.

Youre off your rocker if you think alu nuts are sensible.

Chief MSA scrutineer I was talking to sends kids round the paddock with a magnet looking for alu nuts. The scary thing, he said, "is they sometimes find some!"

Just buy steel. ALL alu ones just strip given enough time.

I never believed that alloy could match steel in terms of durability & strength. I was curious as to wether other peeps had tried them.

Years ago I had ally ones on my Pulsar, but that was before I realised they were shite haha.
I am sure super expensive ally ones are great, but it's only a wheel nut so I'd just get some steel ones from DriftWorks.

I ordered a set of these last week in neo chrome. The quality is top notch, but obviously they weigh a bit being stell. Once I've got them on the car and can make my mind up what they are like I'll leave my verdict on this thread for ya. :)

Only thing I would say is make sure they are genuine. The only marking on them is one stamp stating the thread pitch. So I imagine they could be quite easy to fake. I ordered mine through Funky Power, so I'm quite confident they are real. :p
