What grade of oil?

10/40 semi or full syn.

Don't listen to forum heresay - This is what Honda and oil specialists reccomend.

Incorrect sir.
As above, 10w40 is one of many options.
And not the best one. :)

Has zero advantage over 5w40

ive always used 5w40

used to be silkolene now Fuchs titan pro oil always been perfect for me

I have heard other people mention that 10w40 for B and 5w40 for K but would it not be more beneficial to use a fully synthetic oil on a B-series engine especially on the track?

Or is it more the case of not wanting to spend a fortune on oil changes so semi synthetic will do the job?

you get sooooooooo many people that complain about oil consumption on B series engines, 99.9% of them are using 5w40 fully synths

i am going by my own experience and the experience of many of my friends who frequently did track days, you don't need anything more than a 10w40 semi synth in a B16B / B18C

FYI it was castrol GTX (NOT magnetec) i used in mine and castrol edge that i ran in my dads FD2

I use the Oberon 5w50 for my bone stock b16b in the climate of Cyprus.
Thinner viscocity yes.
Easier to get oil consumption though!
They say it performs better (bollocks).
I'd switch to Mobile1 or Motul 10w40 if i hadn't been using oberon for the past 3 years on that engine.

5w40 better than 10w40 ???
Think again http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil Tests.pdf

unless i missed something, they dont actually compare the same make and brand of 10w40 and 5w40.
Cross brand comparisons are likely due to the oil make up rather than the fact its 5w40.

5w40 will protect better at intial start up and have the same viscosity when upto temp as 10w40.
Its more expensive, which seems to be why most people go 10w40. :secret:

Oh great, I've got 0W-30 in my 16A2 :nerv:

How defined are the grades then?? As i spoke to Oilmam about using 0W-30 and he said it'll be fine just keep a eye on the levels.

I understand where you are coming from, the funny thing I found is when I ran 10w40 on the track in my b16a it didn't seem to use any oil, I then switched to 15w50 motul 300v (supposed to be the best oil you can buy) it used around 100-200ml on the track

I currently have 5w40 synthetic in the car for better cold start protection and it hasn't used a drop on the road. I will test it next Sunday on the track and see if it uses any for a good comparison

I'm also using the same 5w40 in my B18c DC2 and it hasn't used any on the road yet so I will keep an eye on the level over the next while
