Hello,

I am new to this forum and its not that much time since I owned a B16b, I did a full swap of my civic 2000 Lxi with an EK9 that I dunno which year make is it (97-98), the car ran fine, very fast and powerfull, and sounds really amazing...after a couple of months I noticed an oil leakage near the vtech solenoid and a signs of oil vapor new the oil cover and the spark plugs...here is what happened.. :p

It all started when I took my Honda to Honda company to check the engine because of an oil leakage near the V-tech solenoid, they said that they don't have the needed part for that leakage, its whether the distributor o-ring or the cam seal, anyways, they put some silicone as an attempt to stop the leakage, but I didn't have time to test that yet cause the sound started like the next day, which is today btw..

They said that it is normal to see the oil vapor even though I don't think it is, but I don't trust them very well here in Jordan even if they are Honda Service Center.

So, I am posting a video of the engine, for you to see,,,,

Maybe it was a bad idea letting them remove the cam cover and check the leakage!! :S:S:S

Please help me know what to do...thanks

that sounds way to heavy a knock to be tappets so i assume that something is loose in the cam gear, i wouldnt be running that engine if it was mine, take that cam cover off and check if anything is loose

thats what i would be doing first of all aswell mate

Thanks for the replies guys,,

My question now is, is it ok to remove the cam cover on my own?? do I need any sealing material or it's just remove and put back?!

I'm sorry, but I don't want anything bad happen to my engine! :)

you will be fine to just remove it yourself and fit again mate its pretty straight forward, but depending on how worn/old the rocker cover gasket is most people would advise to replace it at the same time, i got my last one from pentland components for £10.

Well, I went back to the Honda Company and they said that the sound is a valve sound that needs adjustment, this was before touching anything on the engine, a judge by sound..

And it turned out that they didn't remove the cam cover before, they only removed the v-tech solenoid!

I didn't listen to them and took my car to another mechanice, it took him like 10 seconds to realize that the sound is not a valve sound and 20 seconds to discover that one of the spark plugs was loose!!!!!!! that was the cause of the sound, the 4 spark plugs were not tight,,

My problem is solved now, thank God, and thanks to all of you guys who actually listened to the sound and gave me some advices.

Btw, the engine looks in bad shape ri8? that oil vapor I don't know how to get rid of it!! :S:S

Some brake and clutch cleaner or even intake cleaner will take off oily residue.
