Vendor Status

Maybe it's a good idea to do a standard check and an optional extended check.
I'm not sure about the standard check; are all trader VAT registered?

Nope, I'm not VAT registered. Anyone starting out in the UK I would imagine wont be as the threshold is £73000 turnover before you need to register and pay VAT on your sales. Just means that personally I can keep prices down as I dont need to recoup the VAT on the products I sell.

 Need 73k turnover?? Here you register your company and then you have a VAT number :p

But nice to see you guys al backing me up! If we want to implement this, we need the conditions to apply for the standard vendor status and for the extended status. So help me make them up! Wanna know what you guys come up with, especially for the standard vendor status.

do vendors have to provide proof of id when they apply?

something with name and address to confirm they are who they say they are

Its been an interesting read this.

I started out as a very small company only selling a few parts every month, and I wouldn't want to see anyone else who wants to start a business feel like they can't becuase there not big enough.

But I do agree we need some sort of way of improving buyer protecting for everyone on the forum against scammers.

Anyone who is a legit seller should have no problems giving the mods a contact number, business address, house address, paypal email and a personal email address.

Most legit vendors will have an eBay account also and probably a web site to.

Vendor status needs to be for Vendors - They have a website/shop/business. There should be a Temporary Seller status for those who want to sell items/break their car for parts who don't have the posts as I like a good bargain and have wanted to sell on other forums before but couldn't be arsed with the post-count. And it should be more expensive than Vendor status and only last for 1 month at a time and the person should have a Verified PayPal account. Something like this:

A sticky on the For Sale section should also explain about the various status's, what not to do when buying from a stranger with no feedback (like pay as a Gift on PayPal) etc.

Also, every picture of an item should have a scrap of paper with the username on it like on DC2 forum to stop any pictures from Google being used.

I'll work with the mods to find the best way to solve all this issues.

I have simple but effective idea...
here me out i may make it sound more complex than it is so bare with me.. it works in my head but let me know what you reckon..

they give their address and I.D ( copy of or photo off their I.D which can be a drivers license or passport with their username next to it ) and then simply send them a post card that RVM or a MOD could make so only the mod's will know what the card looks like.. ( CUSTOM MADE maybe even in felt tip so it can't be forged lol. ) send it via Recorded delivery meaning you can see who singed for it and verify this with the I.D .. and then they have to send a picture of them holding the post card with their face in clear view..

that way you have their full address and full name...
You confirm the address and name with the recorded delivery.
Then you Double confirm who they are by having a picture of them with the custom made post card that only the mod's will know what it looks like...

for me that would 100% confirm who someone is..

Money wise it could be part of the VENDOR STATUS that pay's for the post card to be sent..

also it means for the vendors that say NO i am not sending my I.D or address to you... you simply know they are not Legitimate as they should have nothing to worry about..

reason i say this is it is not hard to make a fake paypal account or a fake website or a fake company...

^^ Not a bad idea at all!!

How would people set up a fake paypal though as it needs a bank to pay into? Surely you have to have ID to open said bank account? So there will be a record of the owner of the paypal account that way?

I have discussed this in lenth with rvm and the requirements that are now in place for applying for vendor status should massively help stamp out the problem. As the way it was up till now anyone could sign up and buy the vendor status and start selling. If the user does not have links to prove they run a respectable company/business with a good reputation either by website or forum links and we are 100% happy with it then they will be refused the status to sell here. This in place with the 250 post count for all other users should be a big help to us in our fight to stamping out the scammer problem.

Sounds good! What am I classed as now then as I dont have 250 posts?:((

What about an extra label for vendors that send a copy of their ID? Or Topher-EK4's whole idea? It will gain extra trust with users if a vendor has that extra label and therefor it will motivate vendors to do that.
