I'm going to Santa pod this year with my car il be using a 02 Passat towing a 16ft Brian James trailer with an integra in board.. Is it legal to pull with a car once the load ain't more than it's own wait the Passat weighs roughly 1550kg
Trailer 5-600 and integra 900-1000 it's striped. So that round same weight as car., am I right in saying this.. Or are they that bad on regulations will u get away with it..?
 
Doesn't it also have to be less than 3 tonnes? All though how old are you? If you young like me then you won't have light goods on your licence like most 30-40 year olds will

Ya but that's roughly 3 ton in total think limit Is 3.5 I fone the trailer test here I ireland so I have that category on my licence..
 
If you have a towing license then you only need to make sure that the actual weight of towed car and trailer is less than the towing limit of the car.

Both my 9-3 and 320d have 1600kg towing limits.
(You can find this info from your cars vin - minus the GVW from the Gross train weight)

Hire a van lad you will have more comfort it's around 11 hours from Tipperary trow a mattress in the back of it
 
If you do not have a towing license you cannot tow more than the car, so if your car is 1500kg, your trailer, any load, anything in the boot and your passengers cannot be more than 1500kg in total.

If you have B+E license you can tow up to the towing capacity of the car, which will most likely be more than the cars weight.

Also if your trailer says gross weight is 2000KG and your car weights 1500kg then you have a problem. Even if your not pulling 2000KG. Obviously the above depends on if you have a b+e or not and if you have an old license.

If you have an old old license, pre 1997 i think then its different.
 
Pretty sure it's pre 1994 for "grandfathers rights"

When you work around 7.5t lorries/vans that term comes up a lot lol
