just woundering what tools are needed to rebuild 7th generation gearbox cheers!
Your standard hand tools plus
A bearing splitter and pullers ( blind and external )
Snap ring pliers
Bench vice
Power bar or impact gun
Pry bar
Selection of big sockets 24/27/32mm etc
And a manual to cover clearance etc
Thats about it really for a standard rebuild
Power bar or impact gun
Pry bar
Selection of big sockets 24/27/32mm etc
with tools like that it must be a 7.5 tonne ep3 truck
take it you have never rebuilt an ep3 box
take it you never have either! All the bits darragh said you will need, make things alot easier. undoing the bolts on the dif and the bolt on the countershaft without power tools is a balls!
That list was general , big sockets are needed for fully seating 4th/5th on the counter unless he has a press and the attachments , which I think he wouldn't have..
One thing I forgot was a torque wrench too..
PS: Not only do I do this work day to day as a living , I do it throughout my spare time too .. I will probably have built more gearboxes than you will ever see Rallysport.
when i grow up i want to be a top mechanic like you
So your still a child ?
if you are giving advice at least tell him what tools he needs
I did.
dont forget to add a mini sledge to beat the sockets
A hammer -> basic hand tools
and 2 screwdrivers and a hammer to beat in between the gears to take them apart
The proper method -> Bearing splitter as mentioned
if you need any more help just pm me
..........No thanks
Oh your definitely looking for an arguement huh?
Im off now to do some gearbox work like a top mechanic should .. so chat tonight Rallysport xx

did all you said on my box rebuild
discovered 1 gear left over after beating the gears within an inch of their life so my question is
is this 6th gear?
what size of socket do i need to beat it on
was thinking 22mm
or do i leave it out as you never said anything about it in any of the posts on the tread
any advice would be helpful especially from a TOYOTA TECHNICIAN
