too much oil

hey so my clutch was going to the floor and not coming back up so i filled it back up and pumped it so it was working again. then i was driving, not very far when the key light started to flash so i turned off the engine and tried to start it and it refused point blank to start so i stopped and checked the oil and it says their is more than double what i need.... whats happened? !!!
