He there,

I was just wondering if a TODA header and J's air intake would compliment my EK9 with Mugen twinloop catback and Vision decat. Or am i better of with a Mugen header because of the Mugen exhaust?

Ivo

Toda header is probably the best off the shelf header you can buy for the EK9.

Personally, I would use a different intake such as one from BPi.

BPi - Performance Velocity Stack

Best results are netted when the intake length is tuned on a dyno. For some this is not an option and so I would prefer to use a comptech icebox in this situation.

So what you are saying is, a Dyno tuner needs to dyno the car with my modifications to decide the right 3" induction pipe length with minimum amount of bends? Do you have a estimate of this lenghth?

it's between 12 to 18 inches generally.... there's no real right or wrong length here..just depends on where you want the "supercharging"/helmholtz resonating effect to take place.

Of course there's space constraints as well....but on race cars that do not need to run headlights, you often see the unfiltered velocity stack sticking out of the bonnet.

However, in order to take full advantage of this, you need to have a programmable ecu.... As this supercharging effect will definitely affect the AFR and you need to compensate to make the most power safely.

Personally i would go with the j's racing intake with a cool air feed or uprated panel filter in original airbox with cool air feed:nice:

if you have a good few quid go with the mugen airbox it's the mutts nuts

I'm running Hondata which is being tuned by EK9Turbo from EK9.org so that is not the problem. The thing is finding a good tuner in the netherlands :angry2:
this would be the ideal thing. If i cant find a tuner i have to choose...

Everywhere i seem to look answers are the same:

- taken the Mugen (comptech) best power ots improvement
- Take the J's with cold air feed best ots throttle response

Best thing would be buying them both and ditch the loser :D

Time for an update..

Like i sayed in the previous post i bought both... First i had the J's intake:

I must say it makes a lot of noise. So much i got sick of it. Throttle respons is realy good. But only when your driving 40 and up. Heat soak is a bitch with this intake... Low rpm is not so good. High rpm is good.

Now i have had the mugen airbox installed. First of all the difference of sound is huge. I realy dont hear a sound coming from the Mugen... Porbably because my ears got damaged by the J's.
The mugen pulls better from lower rpm. In vtec, i cannot say yet. But my feeling is better performance thru the whole powerband. J's just on top...

my tip, save and buy the mugen if there is no good tuner who can make you a custom...

if i use a header and intake like the j's one with no tuned ecu my car will be slower ?
can my car benefit from these mods or it will run dangerously lean ??

the car will not be slower but the car will not realize its full potential.

the AFR will likely not be dangerously lean, but this can vary from car to car.

I can only say that it is better to tune your car with a good ECU like hondata. The mods wil help, but to get all out of your setup, you need a good tune...

I tuned my with hondata. WILL is tuning me online...
