hi guys...would like to ask for your opinion,

what is the best ratio for me if i am travelling long distance daily about 200km, i want low rpm but the speed is high. but i don't want the ratio to be too long that it will make the car sluggish. a balance of high speed and pick up. my plans are either just change the 5th ratio which is using 0.787 with 4.4fd to give me higher cruising speed, or change the whole ratio from 1st to 5th, but i don't know what ratio i should have...

how the car feels if i just change to 4.2 fd?

fyi, im using four door ej/ek with 96 spec b18c engine and transmission, stock ratio and 4.4 fd. on 5th ratio, i can get 80kmh @ 3000rpm

thanks..

By looking at the Mfactory gear calculator it looks like it will be a bit slower at accelerating.

What is wrong with the current gear ratio? Honda chose those ratios so it is a good balance between performance and cruising.

If you just change the 5th gear ratio it will be a big drop of rpm when changing from 4th to 5th gear.

changing to a longer ratio will make it slower car, would ruin it imo.Y not just buy a cheap daily beater

the current ratio is good but i feel its too short if you are high speed cruising and i don't want to beat the engine just for traveling alone.

am thinking of a daily beater but dont have a budget right now :)

y not just change the 5th gear to a longer ratio.

i did that to my daily and its awesome for hwy driving.
close gears for lights to lights and long 5th for cruzing
