Hi All,

Has anyone got any advice of how to remove the steering wheel correctly?

Had all my alignment done and when i went to pick the car back up the wheels almost at 90deg when it's going straight?! I have complained!:angry2:

Anyways i can't take it anymore so i thought i'd see if i could do it myself...

i wouldnt adjust the steering wheel mate. id take it back or have it done elsewhere. it sounds like they have done something stupid like adjusted one side and not the other. had someone do exactly the same on my old car.

jus bring the car somewhere deserted, take off let the wheels centre themselves stop the car remove the centre of wheel disconnect airbag loosen nut wobble wheel til its loose(bit of effort its on splines) just put it on straight and your laughin!

I hope your car was properly aligned. It sounds like it's been a major wreck before or your tires must have been wearing out of control - especially with the steering wheel being almost 90deg and your car is tracking straight.

Do you have a before/after reading of what was performed?

In order to remove the steering wheel, disconnect the battery and wait a couple of minutes before using torx bits to remove the airbag section. Loosen the 17mm nut but do not fully remove.

You may have to hit the outer circumference of the steering wheel towards you as it may be stuck - the loosened nut will prevent the wheel from flying into the face once you "pop" it off the splines. Once loose, remove the nut and then reposition properly.

There may be some SRS/airbag reels in the way, but that shouldn't matter if you're not completely replacing the steering wheel.

thanks for that guys!

I had it done as i've just fitted coilovers.

I was Exaggerating a bit about the actual angle - it feel's like 90deg though. It was completly straight before it went in. I just like things to be spot on and it's completly done my head in...

Thanks again all - i'm going to have a go next weekend - if no good back to the garage (different one)..

cheers

Mike

DO NOT remove your wheel and put it back on straight............. just go back and get them to do it correctly!!

problem will be with the work carried out and it has not been done correctly
