Anyone know what the length and diameter of standard EK9 springs are? Failing that, the same for any of the aftermarket ones? The reason I am asking is I want to buy race springs (long story) and they are not fitment specific, but are sold by the length, diameter and spring rates. [Any advice on a good starting point on spring rates also welcome, but the info I really need to know the length and diameter.] thanks Jaz

race springs are usually for coilovers and will most likely NOT fit your stock shock.

A custom race spring like that is made for people who have a damper ready and have done the studying required to match it up to that specific shock's valving and travel.
It really seems like you don't know where to start, and custom race springs is not it.
I would say start out with an already matched coilover, such as PIC Performance. They have damper rebound adjustability and if you were to pick say an 10kg-mm Front and 8kg-mm rear spring, the dampers are matched to the spring rates and matched to the front and rear of the vehicle. If you were to jump up to a track spec. rate such as 12k front, 14k rear, the dampers are matched to that spring rate and front/rear location as well.

Thanks, that's good advice although it doesn't answer my question ;-). So, alright then, part of the long story is that I have a set of Mugen Showa dampers, how do I go about what you say, ie matching some springs up to the Showa's valving and travel? cheers Jaz

hmmm, im sorry but is there a reason you refuse to use normal drop springs like everyone else? what your trying to do is very complicated for a few reasons, first reason is the stock spring is smaller at the bottom and gets bigger at the top, so you CANT use a straight spring. there are many good companies that make excellent springs for the showa/ek9 shock:

spoon
h&r
eibach
tein
etc...

I thought that the normal drop springs were more for fast road/occasional track use whereas my car is a full time racer - so firstly I want to lower than normal and secondly run higher spring rates...

Why don't you go ahead and post all your specs and plans- we know you're using showa shocks, but post some specs including motor, vehicle, and where you plan to race, including track condition.
There's no way we can tell you what spring rate to choose for your setup if you keep filling us in on new factors. And yes, if you choose a "normal drop spring" you will want a linear race spec spring. Right now, I don't think the showa shocks are valved for race, if you put heavy springs on them like 16k, it will be underdamped. If you use the same dampers along with a high rate spring you will have to get them re-valved for best performance.
