does it really lower engine operating temperature dramatically? i need to know before i drop the cash & buy it. :blinx:

i have the mugen thermostat, fan switch, radiator cap & honda radiator fluid. the car now heats up faster & cools down way faster. So they do do the job.

ye, they definatly work. The thermostat opens at a lower temp so the coolant circulates thru the rad at a lower temp, and the thermoswitch kicks the fan in at a lower temp too.

It's a good idea to get the thermostat and thermoswitch installed at the same time, or they'll be effectivley working against each other, or, ideally a setup like cyek9's above..

:)

Had the thermostat and it worked perfectly, specially at the track :)

thanks guys, that's what i needed to know. does the needle point down much lower after the install?

that's what i also thought. when i first started the car after changing them, it stayed for a while right in the middle of the temp meter but then went to where it always goes.

It's a acceptable abstraction to get the thermostat and thermoswitch installed at the aforementioned time, or they'll be effectivley alive adjoin anniversary other, or, alluringly a bureaucracy like cyek9's above..

for those who live in cooler climates, I advise against this modification completely.

The reason being is that if you are still running off a stock ecu, these two mods together will cause the car to run in "warm-up" mode which means running rich.

If you really want to lower your engine temps properly, I would suggest getting a larger radiator - true that if you start the cooling (t-stat opening) effect earlier, the temps would be more manageable, but if it was really that easy to lower your temps, then radiator companies would all be out of business.

how does a radiator lower ur engine temps?????

the thermostat determains the engine temp... if the rad is not efficient enough then the thermostat cannot work correctly.
if the rad cools too much the thermostat shuts off keeping the temp where it should be. (removing it is a diff story)

i run a spoon theromstat, fan switch and larger rad... and the needle on the stock teg gauges runs lower (about 1/3 now instead of half)

so if u fit a thermo and fan switch the rad cannot keep up if the temp is same.

i had this prob with stock dc2 rad... changed to spoon one and the temp sat lower.....

let me rephrase that then.

The radiator has the capacity to carry/hold more heat which leads to it being far more effective in competition or environments that have higher ambient temperatures.

Simply installing these two pieces IS effective but would not hold out in the long run. I've seen temps stay far more stable with a larger radiator and the stock thermostat.

This is not going by an aftermarket gauge which far more accurate than the cluster unit.

ture.... but has no effect on engine temp... bar it cannot keep up with the cooling after the thermostat has opened as you say above.... you should get uprated one as with everything do it once... do it right
