Hi guys,

I'm sure most of this is covered elsewhere but I wasn't sure which area to try.

I've had my Black 98 EK9 for 6 months now and it's just come to 60k so looking to have the cambelt changed as I don't think it has been done prior to import.

I'm looking at getting a Toda one, has anyone any experience with this or know if there is any benefit over an OEM one ?

As I'm having that done alongside a general service are there any OEM parts worth replacing with aftermarket i.e. brakes, pads, air filter, sparkplugs etc.

The car is presently standard and I'm not planning on modifying it for another 6 months, so I'm not talking about anything serious presently as am enjoying the car in OEM spec, just some advice on things to make it healthy.

Any comments would be useful thanks

Stick with standard belts. Ive had experience with the common aftermarket belts, theres no benefit over stock. If stock belts are fine for 800+whp civics then then im sure they'll be fine for your ek9.

Theres lots of various aftermarket brake pads/disc or upgrade. Stock works great when its well maintained but if you are going to start doing track use then speak to some of the really experienced trackday junkies like haitch, Kris, RVM etc. The people who do it a lot tend to try a few different brands to find what works well for them. Myself I would advice brembo blanks (discs) & Ferodo DS-2500's (pads) for the street or DS3000 for the track.

Dry paper air filters you'll find ALWAYS outperform aftermarket wet/dry non-paper filters when looking at filtration level.... however they dont always flow as good as aftermarket ones without increasing the surface area (size). check the air intake/exhaust section and youll find various reviews of different intakes people have tried :nice:

Sparkplugs... stay stock unless you've made changes to the internals of your engine/converted to FI and it'll be fine.

One thing I can highly reccomend is a cabin air filter accessory part and frame. It makes a big difference in the air quality if you drive in thorugh or around dusty enviroments in your EK9 alot. I put one in mine last year at the start of may. so this may I'll be rmeoving it and doing a review of what its protected the inside of the car from.

A brake fluid flush and re-bleed works wonders if its been neglected. Brings back the pedal feel.

Also consider changing the gearbox oil at the same time as the engine-oil. You'll feel a nice improvement.

HTH
