hi everyone,
looking at buying a s80 have one lined up , he says its 98 spec dc2,
he has to check that it has the n3e stamp on it for me he claims its 4.7fd and lsd.
i know looking threw the hole will tell about the diff.
does the barcode/number on the sticker tell you anything or anyway to check buy the code?

Only way to be 100% is to strip the box and check. I've been caught out before with a '4.7' fd box and it was a 4.2.

I think if the first number of the barcode is a 3 its a 98 spec box. Read that somewhere a while back when I was buying a s80, whether its true or not I'm not 100% sure.

There's another 100% trusted way to check FD without striping gearbox case. All is need, to do all procedure very accurately.

So that's the way:
It's need to turn main shaft so many times, while axle will make one full circle. Then, main shaft turns number divide by axle turns number (because it turned on full circle It’s = 1) – so we get the same number as main shaft turns. This result is gear ratio and FD multiplication.

Main shaft turns / axle turns = gear ratio x FD

Repeat this procedure will all gears, also with R (reverse).

All B series tranny have the same R gear ratio. http://www.superhonda.com/photopost/data/519/26736B-series_Trans_Specs.JPG

Dividing R gear result of R gear ratio ( 3.000) – we getting FinalDrive. Also we can check in the same way with all other gears.

To Identify a s80 gearbox if its on the car driving, at 3500rpm in 5th you should be around 70mph on you speedo. Correct me guys if I'm wrong

Do you know what the speed would be for a 96 spec box with a 4.7FD?

Any way of working it out?
