rev counter weirdness under WOT

Hi All,

Recently I've noticed my rev counter needle does strange things when I'm accelerating under WOT. It bounces up and down by about 2k rpm (usually starts happening at 3k through to about 6k) and occasionally drops right down.

The car's performance seems ok and VTEC transition is also fine, and on cruise it accurately reflects the engine speed.

I don't know how the rev counter works (i.e. mechanical or elecronic) or what to check - any ideas boys and girls?

visually inspect the dizzy plug and pay particular attention to the blue (rpm/tacho' output) wire. this can also be a sign the ICM is on its way out.

its parts inside the dizzy failing,happened my mates ef9 a while ago.performance is effected its just not that noticeable.
