After driving my friends ITR with Mugen intake/Spoon ECU/catback.

I found the DC2 really really easy revving.

is this because of the engine mods? or the final drive?

My plan for my 9 right now is just to remove resonator/add cold air pipe and Decat.

i did have urges to mod the 9 but then i realize if i went hunting for power, the list will never end.

So will the plans I have, make it more "free" revving, I am not going to expect gains but I just want that feeling of easy-ness, if you know what i mean......

a cold air induction kit a decat pipe will make it very easy revving....i put my standard air box an cat in for my nct an the drive to the test center my car feels very sluggish...i come home put back in my decat an induction kit an my ca revs easy...ur freeing up the flow of the engine wen u take out ur cat an add an inctuction kit.....wen the exhaust fumes flow into ur cat the go in at a 30 degree angle which slows things down...but wit the decat thes jus going straight thro an empty pipe.

full cat back exhaust and a decent headr should make a big difference to how the car picks up!

my car has a fujitsubo header and HKS cat back exhaust and it certainly has no problem revving

what year was the ITR? :)

Hmm, revy-ness? RVM has a point, if the DC2 was a 98+ it has the high 4.78 final drive, which makes it rev up more quickly. A higher final drive along with a lower 5th gear would be a good mod. Along with that, you could remove the AC and PS which would free up power, add steering feel, and increase engine response. Add the honda lightweight crank pulley to replace the 3 row stock one. A completely unrestricted intake like a j's racing short ram w/ a cold air duct would increase response. Straight through exhuast of your choice (like a catless mugen twin loop) will also gain you response. A lightened flywheel will affect the engine revs GREATLY. Lighter 15" wheels also help.

it is 98 spec, so yes I reckon the final drive makes it "easier" to rev, it feels more at home with the engine that way for some reason.

maybe if i get the 4.78 for the 9 it will give the same feeling

I don't get it? Are you trying to compare a 1.6 to a 1.8???

Bigger capacity always rev smoother and easier becasue of more torque, have you tried a K20A? Now thats smooth!

Yea right!! :blabla: And that smoothness kills vtec feeling!
The only reason why I love the B16B engine is because of that feeling.......I would go for a K20 only because of its power and not because of vtec.

no I am not trying to compare the 2, but its the feeling of the engine being more "free" if you know what I mean.

Manos: Its true,:blabla: have you tried k20A? You can almost not feel the vtec kicking in. To me, it feels like a 6cyl. Amazing what honda has done to this engine. The only reason why you feel vtec kick is because 1.6 lower end and mid range power sucks, thats why you feel that kick on higher rpms if you know what i mean.

These things can always be sorted out with cams.

BuddyClub cams are made to have smooth linear power curve. This might be what you want for a smooth power band.

Yea I know....its because of the non-existant low end-midrange torque but this makes it more exciting imo....:D
I take off my hat to Honda for their sofisticated engineering and their ability for innovating technologies like Vtec and i-Vtec. Can you imagine a hybrid Honda Type R in the future??
