Hi guys,

Need some help, I sold my EK9 a while back to a chap from Spain. Now he is having trouble registering it there does anyone know how to go about this.

Thanks

Some mainland countries don't allow registering rhd vehicles, no idea what the situation in Spain is like but he might not be able to register it at all. Should have researched it before he bought the car really! I know that under EU law you must be allowed registration if you're moving from one member state to another, but in that case you must have owned the vehicle for a certain amount of time and the exemption is only valid for the original owner i.e. you cannot sell the car to anyone in the new country of residence.

What is the problem exactly? I also had problems with the registration in germany. It was a mistake in the V5C document with the date of first registration. It says 2001. But in germany and every other EU-country it has to be Euro 3 exhaust emission class from 2001 onwards. EK9 is always Euro 2 exhaust emission class. So I had to tell the DVLA. They changed the date of first registration to 1998 which was the true date from japan. They kept the original (wrong) V5C document and sent me a document of permanent export with the corrected vehicle details (there were some more minor mistakes) and I had no more problems.
