Hey all,

I've posted on itr dc2 but as usual no help,

Well I washed the car few weeks ago and since then the car won't start straight away in the cold, I mean may have nothing to do with the wash but the problems beginning to do my head in.

It starts fine once ran and warm, its just in the mornings when sat all night. It turns over fine nd sometimes runs but then strop after few seconds. So to clarify its taking 2-3 starts when it has sat there and time to cool down.

What could this be guys? For some reason I have the heaters on when driving but they don't seem as hot as they did few weeks ago either.

Thankyou for any help given guys

does the engine management light come on at all?
mine did something similar, wouldnt start when cold but started with a push. and started again fine when warm. turned out to be the distributor.
But it could also be the coolant temp sensor which is screwed into the head. it would throw up a fault code on the EML though.

Thanks lads, I'm going to check inside the distributor and also my battery
No eml mate, but will check for codes on the ecu tmoro just incase

ok youll probably see nothing wrong inside the distributor but try push starting it when it doesnt start. if that works then its likely the same problem i had.

Check the state of you plugs to dude and as the lads said check the dizzy, not sure if you have much experience with them just look for charring on the contact points and the rotor arm and while your there you could freshin them up with a little rub of emory paper, another thing to think about is how good is you fuel pump, i had a similar problem before when after short drives (ie warm) she would start fine but after a whole night sometimes it would take a couple of times to turn her over and she would start, i found that during the night the fuel was returning to the tank and leaving none in the lines so what i was actually doing when turning it over/priming it was bringing the fuel to the engine, there was a little one way valve in the pump and it was shot put an uprated pump in it and it was grand :)

Thanks dude

Touch wood I've found the cause, I charged the battery saturday n fitted yesterday. Has started on the beat. I also took plugs out as they were black, sooty so cleaned them up nicley and re-fitted

Update

Problem solved new battery and sorted starts on the beat again

Cheers guys
