Would like to know what everyone has paid for there heavy engine mods/swaps, thinking of doing one some time next year, need to know how deep my pockets need to be, any input is helpful!

I've started a turbo build and I'm nearly done collecting parts. With all the parts, fitting and tuning it's costing me £2850 - £3100.

What sort of system do you have as that sounds very reasonable!

Have you considered a Race-Tech drive through turbo conversion? Well worth the money for what you get in the end. It'll set you back about £3k but you'll have a very streetable setup with a few years warrantee on the race-tech kit if fitted by them.

K20 with I/H/E and tune circa 7k minus what you make from selling bseries parts.

For turbo I would budget 4k but then you would probably spent abit less if you sold you b16b and s4c and bought a b18c4 and s9b, which would be better to boost too.

JRSC you could do it for less than £2500 if you could find one second hand. Doesnt need any real supporting mods other than management, and it does pull well. My friend Kevs car has 240bhp and 140lbs ft im sure from his JRSC B16B.

Race-Tech's base turbo kit with mani, tubby, oil and water lines, IC etc comes in at about £1500

I asked Lou @ TDI what he thought of the race tech kit and he said they wouldn't touch it with a very long barge pole.

i spoke to a chap at tdi north at a rolling road day couple of weeks ago a young ish lad bout the race tech kit and he said they are alright a few years ago when ricky started couple of mani's cracked but he sorted it now also he said they are a good weld so think they cant be that bad they probs said it so you would take your bisness their

Yer maybe.

Supercharger looks like the one to get, value for money wise anyway, I hear there is problems with melting things as it gets too hot?

Not had any heating issues at all with my Vortech SC'd B16a2. Granted I haven't owned the car long but a few thousand miles of flawless motoring!

They offer a 3 year warranty and have sold over 50 kits. I'm in no way affiliated with them but 300bhp for £2-3K sounds good to me.

What did the vortech system cost? im fascinated with superchargers now, wondering what id have to change, e.g cooling systems, pistons.
need to know the best value for money supercharger for new year project!

My bad. Just checked the email I sent and I did not ask about the race tech kit.

When it comes to what you will need it depends on what power you are going for.

Depends on what sort of power you are looking at. Turbo can start of a cheapy, then it can progress and progress and you end up going daft with it. I know I did, so be careful with what you're buying.

Turbo is best though.

The Vortech system costs just shy of 3k iirc. I'm on my phone so it's not the best for linking but go to funkypower.co.uk and you'll get the figures there :) Internals wise, my engine is completely standard and runs perfectly. But the raised cr of a b16b would probably change things somewhat. "Turbo's are best" is a bit of an outlandish claim really. Depends what you want! There is no definitive answer as to what's best.

Just to add, with just a 4-1, decat system and Skunk2 inlet mine made 277 at the flywheel for a rough figure :D

At what pressure?

Best bang for buck is the turbo IMO:nice:

As for how much i spent on mine, including the forged motor, i would hazard a guess under 5k:D

At 0.7 bar. You'll definitely get more bang for your buck with a turbo, I won't argue that. But it depends on each application as to what would suit you best.

I think I would prefer a supercharger as its less maintanence and less wheelspin as I hear a turbo doesn't put the power down as well as it could

Like whats been said, its all a case of what you want from your car.

Bang for buck is turbo. But for me i just could bring myself too. im know they are rapid and good fun, but for me they lose the essence of the vetec engine.

K20s are fantastic engines but still relativley pricey which is a shame.

But imo a charger would be the ultimate.....actually no the ulitmate would be a k20 + jrc in mine :)) but as they are less common and the way they deliver the power, they for me keep it feeling like a civic but just with more punch :)

My bro has a corolla compressor, its a 1.8 vvt-l engine with a m42 charger it think. and i have a mate with a dc5 + jrc @ 338bhp. both feel amazing, have better lower down punch but still feel free to let you rag the nuts off them.

I have always wanted to charge my b16 though, as i have never experience one.....
