Hi lads, I have a b16a engine in a rally car and I was about to upgrade valvetrain to fit skunk2 pro 2's. When I took off the rocker cover I noticed that it already has dual springs installed so im thinking they might be already upgraded. Has anyone got a pic off oem b16b springs and retainers installed in a head so I can compare them to mine incase its b16b valvetrain I have.

Stock b16a heads had twin valve springs on one side, I cant remember if it was inlet or exhaust. Inlet

Im pretty sure the b16b retainers are "flatter" than the b16a ones. I know its not the best description, but thats all i can remember.
If you think you have the b16b springs, then they will be doubled up on both sides and if your lucky you will see they are colour coded, the intake will have blue markings and the exhaust will have yellow markings.

There is double springs on both inlet and exhaust sides. I'll check to see if i can make out any colours on them. Does the b16a head need to be ground out to fit the b16b springs and retainers, because my head has had the sides of head near the retainers ground out to fit the retainers?

Is it a common mod to die grind out the head near the retainers when fitting aftermarket springs and retainers?
