alright lads

my cousin had a 99 ek9type r and is looking to buy one of these ecus...

he has the following mods and has asked phearable.net to chip the ecu to support his mods which are

4branch manifold
decat
full system
induction kit...

are these ecu's any good?he doesnt wanna go standalone with so little mods and wont be modding further...are these a good upgrade over stock?he wants vtec at 5500rpm and redline at 9k rpm

these ecus are really cheap thats why im wondering if their good?around 300$

opinions please!!

I've heard good things about them mate! If there the only mods he is doing then i reckon he should go for it :D

he isnt intending going far modding wise with his honda...unlike me lol!!
their soooo cheap, theres gotta be a catch??or is there?

i dont know loads about them tbh mate. I've just heard good things.

rvm is fairly in the know with these i think

hum the 'A team' tune 3 times and he will appear......it's a tried and tested technique :D

Don't forget he will need a obd2b to obd1 conversion harness :)

yes the harness is included in the price of a bit over 300$!!its so damn cheap though, where is the ecu in the ek9 mate?my cuz has tho send photos of the ecu before buying(required by phearable.net)

At the left wall of the passenger side you will find a plastic, remove this and you will see the ecu.

One ECU isn't magically better than the other. Its how its programmed to give fuel, redline, vtec point ect. The phearable ECU (and other companies/tuners doing the same thing) is an obd1 ecu that is chipped for VTEC (depending on the ECU they start out with) then custom tuned using Crome to suit your specific mods such as header, high compression, cams, or larger injectors. You tell them you're stock setup and what you've done to it, and they can send you a chipped obd1 ecu.
The ecu's they start out with are
USDM Vtec: P28, P72, P61
JDM Vtec: p30, p72, p08, p27, pr3, p91
USDM Non-Vtec: P75, PR4, P05, P06
While this option isn't as good as dyno tuing using the same crome software they are much better than a stock ecu on a motor with mods.

Its relatively cheap because the ECU's are cheap and abundant in US junkyards. I have about 8 ecu's ranging from P75's to P06's and 2 P28's, which are in highest demand besides a VTEC ecu. I'll sell these to people who plan on chipping them to run a VTEC motor, or chipping them to run vtec and then tuning with an eprom editor like crome or hondata.

So absolutelysideways if you wanted them to give you say, a 9500 rev limit they could do it.

Was just about to ask that dude:). How do these compare to the spoon ecu?

Very informative thread:nice: I was also thinking about getting a phearable but I was skeptical about the price being so cheap and all. i will tell u how it goes i cant do anything until my car gets here.

1 **ucking month from now:angry2::angry2::angry2::angry2::angry2:

I assume that you guys have aftermarket camshafts + springs + retainers if you rev up that high, there's no use to rev up that high if you dont make any power! :nerv:
