Ok ive just bought a facelift ej9 to re-shell my b18c from my ek3 as the arches and sills have rusted through.
First day it rains i notice the car has the dreaded generic 96-00 passenger footwell leak, before you tell me to do my research i already have.
I will check the sunroof drainage, seam sealer and the windscreen.
But i pulled back the carpet today and was confronted with hundreds of ants, which i have never noticed before in the car. Wtf how did they get in there? specially this time of year and there all where the leak is coming from ill post pics if anyone can help would be highly appreciated.
Need to get this sorted asap to prevent any rust as the cars shell seemed rust free to me.

No idea how Ants got there :/

But, I had this footwell leak before, was soo bad like u have, and I took it to Hond-R to get it fixed once and for all, and I checked the windscreen, drainage tubes etc, but u got to strip the dashboard out to get a good look, they found it was the firewall sealant, on the side that had let go creating a hairline crack which is big enough for water to come into, I would take the dash out tbh mate,

Good luck, I know what its like, I wanted to kill myself when I had it lol.

Yeahh i reckon itll be the firewall sealant aswell as the windscreen seemed fine. Ive washed the car a few times and didnt notice any leaks then, and i also checked the roof trim strip that was fine.
Thanks though im gonna have to try R-motion i could try myself but ive got aircon unit in the way thats gonna be a pain in the ass!!!

Double whammy though leak+ants=bad day haha

95% of all EK footwell leaks have been that damm sealant, Honda just briefly put it on and over time, vibration, age and what not, it does wear out, so I would put my money to it being that on yours, lots of topics on here about how people have sorted it.

Yeah its a pain in the ass to get to. How long did hond-r take to sort it out?
Mini ants nest has just baffled me mind.

They did it on the same day I dropped it off lol, super quick and great guys :D

They had a EK9 before me with the same issue so they knew where to look,

I guess the ants found a way in via a hole somewhere, peel the carpet completely back and see if u find any holes.

got ants in your pants ? no just my car... lol

the leak will be caused by one of the sunroof drains being blocked, i have the same problem
its probs had a messy previous owner thats dropped food on the floor or crumbs ect without cleaning it. that could have caused the ants

Ants don't exactly need a hole in the floor to get in, they are pretty small :) A winged fertilized female probably found her way in the car at some point and set up a nest.

Ill get some ant killer under the carpet later :nice: any idea how to get the ECU trim off? theres some sort off push in plug i cant seem to get off.

I just pulled and came out when I was removing mine. But then I wasn't planning on putting it back so I did not care :D But it should just come out easy

Just spoke to hond-r they said theyd want it for 2 days preferably. Ill try r motion later as theyre alot closer.

Yeah i didnt want to snap it so i didnt pull too hard :p

Open the sunroof, u should see 4 drainage tubes, one on each side, in this case, the passenger side one, pour water down and see if its coming out from the front arch liner... if it isn't u know its blocked etc.

how do you know for certain when everyone has said its probaly the firewall seam seal.
