can anyone help??!!
my b16a overheats in built up traffic on a hot day and sometimes after i stop on a long journey, the temp guage goes up to about 3/4 then i cut the engine. changed thermostat, coolant, hoses and rad but it still does it! fan works fine, so abit stuck, thinking waterpump but im sure that would prob leak if it was faulty.
any ideas?

Iv just had the same problem and since you have replaced most parts you may have to look at the head gasket!!

yup, check your coolant color. blown head gasket sometimes will show black stuff in the coolant...a sign.

head gasket is bad news but i dont think it is as its been doing it for around a year and I have drove around 10,000 miles in that time! there is no residue in the oil or coolant and a mechanic looked at it and said it is very unlikely to be the head gasket. my suspitions are a faulty coolant system and the coolant is not getting circulated properly, thinking maybe sensors or waterpump?! well just hoping it is! as it would be cheaper than HG!!

Well it does sound like a pump issue. But I'd be careful that if it has been overheating a fair bit then the head gasket may have gone. Change the pump and see what happens!

1.If it's the pump i think it would make some noise. Do you hear any noise??
2.It could be the switch of the fan which normally would be attached to the radiator. Do you hear the fan working?? is it working??

i had the same problem. but only happened in traffic, i changed the water temp sensor and it's all good now, maybe worth a try

yeah try as jamie_mac99 said, give it a try if i were you. Do you hear the fan working???

radiator cap not doing pressure, thermostat got stuck, fan blowing air the opposite way ?

Thanks guys big help, fan is ok, mine does only rise in traffic and I've heard about the water temp sensor issue before so I suspect that. Anyone know how much they are?!

Check your radiator, I.e the cooling fins are not damaged or blocked, see if it has holes in. Make sure u bleed the system through as well that could cause it.

Also sometimes the rad fan causing overheat. Because you said it overheat when traffic jam and after stop from long journey. i already experience it :)

Does it continue to overheat whilst the fan is on? If it is then it's almost deffinately not a sensor problem
If the head gasket has failed around the gas rings it will not be visible in the coolant or oil as it simply means the combustion gasses are leaking straight into the water channels and escaping through the rad pressure relief cap, I had this exact problem on my last b16a.
Head gasket change is not as major a job as many believe.

To rule out a head gasket failure, just get a sniff test done, doesn't cost much and only takes about 10mins max to do.

seeing as people are talking about head gaskets thought id ask here. My b16a has got a oil leak and blowin out white smoke which makes me think 100% HG, cars off the road so cant take it to a garage so if someone can back me up to say it is the HG il get on to fixing it, added a picture of the oil leak.

thanks and sorry for the thread hi-jack!!

that looks like its the only thing it could be. see if there is any water in the oil under the oil cap. looks like yellow mayonaise. or a sniff test if its possible

cheers mate! where do people get there gaskets from etc? i went to honda and the guy told me im best off shopping around for one as he would buy the parts individually and end up costing alot, fair point but doesnt help me find a gasket set lol.

im after original honda gaskets, timing belt etc im just not sure where to buy online... any help be much appreciated!!
