Greeting guys. I am 19 and drove a EP2. I was involved in an accident at night on a bend on B road last month, the front car went into a ditch and no body was hurt and no other car involved. I was so panic at that time, I decided to call up recovery service and paid him 40 quid to tow the car back home. Later we went back to the scene and found out that the road were full of sand.

My dad was the main driver and I am the named driver and this is not fronting because he use most of the time. So we phone up co-op and told everything to them even the road were full of sand etc... Last week we receive our claim at 2000 quid with 550 quid excess deducted. Ok we go to search for some cars and at the end we bought a ford focus 1.6 with same insurance group as the EP2 -6, they charged only 60 quid for the change.

Cut the long story short... So few days ago, the insurance policy cames. My dad should have lost all his no claims but the cert stated my dad still have 3 years no claims. Did they made a mistake? I dont want to call them out because this is a "good" mistake for me and him if this is true?

Thanks guys:nerv:

If your dad had is ncb protected he will keep his ncb. I'm sure you need to have 2 or more accidents a year to loose it. If it's been protected.

Hope this helps.

no it didnt... Just checked with the cert of policy it sed we dont have protected ncb??

Might get a EK9 at 20s if 3 year no claim still exists

Lucky your dad den well its fine then because insurance companies dont make good mistakes like that often

I would call them up and confirm, if it was a mistake on their part then you're insurance might be invalid. Some companies offer ncb protection for free so best to check.

With all of these insurance things it's up to YOU and not the insurance company to get it right so you should phone up and ask about the NCB.

Is it not your's dads bonus??? I thought it needs to be earned on your policy, or not?

100% certain it is your dad's bonus....
TBH You really should be on your own insurance it may seem expensive at first but it is the only way to LEGALLY Get your no claims..

It has to be a policy insured in your name as the 1st driver for a full period of 12months, unless on an accelerated bonus scheme of 10 months but these can often only be used with the same company and are not transferable . same with 2nd driver no claims bonus. these are not transferable to different companies... making them worthless as you never know if you are getting a good deal or not.

Did the accident go down as your fault ????
that would be the only way you kept the no claims bonus... if it went down as not your fault....But as harsh as it sounds there was no 3rd party in the accident... the insurnace company Cannot claim agains't the Road... so they must have claimed agsin't you.. which explains the excess..

CAll them dude its in your best interest.. if anything you are legally obliged to inform them of an error.. they will have covered that in their terms&conditions but it won't say it like that it will be in legal speak/terms which are not the same as the english language.. ( its called legalese )

To carry on knowing they have made a mistake or are incorrect is actually classed as FRAUD..
In no way do i intend to patronise you buddy i just wanna help.. the last thing i'd want to see is you in court over this..

with some companys if its the first time you've claimed they normal just take 1 or 2yr ncb off so if you had 5 yr ncb you will have 4 or 3 years left

oh come on... This is really my dads car. I live only 10 mins away from Uni and only seldom drive the cars out like weekends?

Right... shud call them tmr... However, one thing i notice in co op website about Named Driver NCD. It saids "Their details are stored on our system, which will recognise the number of claim-free years of motoring they have enjoyed on your policy. It doesn’t matter if you or any other named drivers have made a claim – the discount is calculated on their personal driving history." Does that mean if i crashed it only deduct my Named NCB not my dads one? hmmm very confusing...

Back in the days in Hong Kong, once the main driver insured on the car, any one can drive the car. No one needs to add their names into the policy other than the main driver... I used to drive my dads Subaru STI without any problems... No offence UK insurance is just too expensive... maybe every countries is different :/

Like you said its in Hong Kong, every country is different. I think in Hong Kong the law is still the same?

Law in Hong Kond is similar to UK one but different. By law the car needs to be insured on public road.

If you got your licence for less then one year, they either reject your quote or they charge you crazy figure (same as UK). But however the will reject you mostly.Once you held your licence for 1 year, they will charge you less.

BUT the difference to the UK one is once the car is insured everyone can drive regardless of the age (well at least 18yo) and given that you have the HK driving licence (you are covered by 3rd party or comprehensive depends on what the owner bought).

Thats why I can drive my dad's subaru STI in Hong Kong without any problems :p

And in Hong Kong you can mod the car whatever you want but insurance company would not pay for the damage of the mods, just the car only. So many people in HK mod their car cuz first they dont need to report the mods to insurance company and secondly it is extremely cheap for the mods. Cause hong kong dont have VAT on all things haha ;)

Just phone them up and they said the will check for it and gimme a call tmr. =]
