There is a very good chance I will be looking to buy an Evo about mid next year.

Just looking to see if anyone on here has owned one? What to look out for and what model they had?

Have a budget of about £12,000. Ideally I would like one as close to standard as possible.

A few of my mates have had a fair few of them most have been 5's and 6 but il ask them about the 7's and see what they say

Two buddies have had a 5 and a 6.
Both had the centre diff/transfer box bolts snap on them so that's a common issue.
I believe they have issues with the AYC pumps aswell. The AYC being quite an expensive job iirc.

Edit:
Obvs the insurance and the theft issue is another reason for me to think twice about it. You hear some horrible things about people's parents etc being beaten for the keys.

Cheers mate

Yeah I know about the AYC pumps. Going to sign up to some forums and have a read.

Insurance is decent from the quotes I have been getting. I haven't heard of anyone's parents getting beaten for keys up here, sometimes cars get stole but *touch wood* it doesn't happen often at all.

From spending time with my mate in his evo 6 they get a lot of attention, everyone wants a piece of the evo!
At the ring, everyday we had people coming over asking how much power the evo had lol
Universally respected and I can't think of another car in that budget that is.?

Personally I think the gulf in price between the 5/6 and the 7/8 doesn't justify the performance. I'd go 6 personally.

I agree, always wanted one so think I have to get one :D

I know what you mean about prices but I am not a major fan of 5/6s also do people not put Evo 7/8 engines in them for better reliability? If I could afford to I would buy a 9 but sadly they are out of budget

Will you be getting rid of the civic then loan

More than likely it will get broke for parts if I decide to buy an Evo as I will be looking to buy a house towards the end of next year as well.

I think the later versions had a revised piston design but don't quote me on it.
It's the 1,2,3,4 engines that suffer "crank walk" pretty bad iirc.

A lot of research to do anyway before I go and throw 10+ k at a car!

Yeah that's a large sum to spend at once. Epic cars though so I'm sure you'll enjoy!

With you gone whose going to buy my parts?

I'd love a 400hp evo but I can't part with my ek9, yet.

I never thought I would see the day the civic goes always thought I would keep it forever but for some reason I feel it is time to move on after 3 years

Yeah I understand, used to love my old Astra but it pissed me off and lost the love for it.
Had urges for a BIG hp 6cylinder build alittle while ago, managed to shake it off for now lol

I used to have a 6 a few years ago, it was an absolute weapon! Any road and conditions it was just amazing!

The standard clutch can be quite weak when you up the power, I had mine mapped to around 350bhp and it destroyed a clutch within a 1000 miles! A replacement twin plate was over £1000.

Heard 7's are rust buckets very prone to rust. evo's are nice but big rent to buy, maintain and run.
