Machine polisher

visit cleanyourcar.co.uk or polished bliss for guides.. tbh a rotary isn't a good idea for a beginner

Using a tool like this you can do a good job quickly or make a big mess very quickly. If you have your heart set on one, I'd recommend practising first on some car panels from a scrap yard and staying away from your pride and joy until you get the hand of it.

Which would you reccomend for a beginner?

Yep if I do purchasde this I will be practising plenty before I even touch my car with it. I've been told that I can get the same finish by hand but its obviously alot more work and time consuming. I've also been told that a machine polisher will give a better finish?

Alot of people say a rotary isnt for a beginner but thats total rubbish imo. My first machine polisher was a rotary and i have never bothered with a DA in my life, however i took the time to learn how to use it properly by learning on scrap panels i got from the scrap yard and i have never damaged the paint on any of my cars despite paint on jap cars being thin.

It does spin faster than a DA and thus can cause more damage but burning through paint is more difficult than you would think and like i said just as long as you learn how to properly use it first you will be fine. plus rotary polishers are more rewarding to use than da's as they get the job done quicker.

i4detailing can sort you out with a better deal on a kit with a range of pads and menzerna polishes. Also enter the code 'cliosport' at checkout to get a discount :)

Also looking into buying some snow foam but you need some foam lance tool thing to use it. Do I need a pressure washer to use this? I just use a hose pip.

for machine polishing menzerna offers a range of polishing compounds with varying aggressiveness so is better suited for machine polishing. overall though menzerna is much better than autoglym imo although i still use autoglym SRP for hand polishing the car every couple of weeks. alot of people dont rate it but i actually like the stuff.

You don't need a pressure washer for a snow foam, but its generally better if you have one for a power washer. Im currently using this one, for a hose connection.
Gilmour Foamaster II Foam Gun

It also comes with free snow foam :woot:

If it's just a good finish you do by hand.
Machine polishing is for taking out defects. Swirls etc.
Takes alot longer than a quick polish by hand.
Snow foam is much better with pressure washer and foam lance. I couldve showed you it in action when you were up.
Av got both da and rotary and I think da is more than enough for Honda paint. And much safer.

Plus remember I have detailed and machine polished that Jordan a good couple of times.
I wouldn't touch it with a harsh compound for rotary with checking thickness of paint.
I recently done my dc5. Got about 80%+ correction with a finishing compound and polishing pad on my da.

Think i'll just stick to hand polishing for now then. Any reccomendations on what to polish it with Irfan? I have autoglym super resin polish and some meguiars and home. I also have some autoglym high definition wax. What should I use and in what stages etc.

I would wash and then clay if it feels rough.
It shouldn't unless it's parked under trees or has loads of tar spots.
Auto glym super first. Then followed by hd wax.
Remember wax is always the last stage.
With the wax apply to one panel at a time. If you can leave for a couple of hours to haze and then remove. Gives it time to bond to surface.

Ok thanks for that. So what clay kit should I go for? Sorry for all the questions I just want to get the job done properly.

meguires one is fine or sonus green.
Just a fine or ultra fine clay. Tbh all clay is near enough the same.
I currently have bilt hammer clay and i dont like it much. Leaves quite alot of marring with loads of lube.
Meguires is good kit. Sonus green is good aswel.
Just got the new chemical clay but no tryed it out yet.
If you want any more info just let me know young sir :)

Thank you sir :) I will be ordering the meguirs clay kit. Trying to convince my older bro to buy a pressure washer as i'm short on cash atm :D
