hi everyone, my car has developed a strange knocking noise recently.
whenever i steer to the left or right, there is little knocking noise coming from the front of the car. and i could actually feel the steering wobble a bit when the knocking noise appear. since the noise appear when turning both left and right, i assume its not the CV joint?! :sarcastic
and also, i got some sort of clicking noise from the O/S front wheel when driving straight, both noises are more noticeable at low speed.
i jacked up the car n turn the wheels forward and backward, i could hear the clicking noise coming from the drive shaft, sounds like its coming from the gearbox side of the shaft. please dun tell me the gearbox has gone bad :disbelief

and this is what i found, a split boot on the inner track rod, could this cause such problems?! the mechanic place i usually go to is not free until next week, and i dun feel safe driving the car now. and input would be great!
thanks in advanced!

UPDATE* I had another go hearing the noise today, realized its more like grinding, rather than knocking.

my civ has an irritating knock aswell, mines on and off though... like i`ll go over a bump and it won`t make a sound, then another ad it makes a hell of knock!!! how annoying.. likely to be rear lca`s but it can wait till i get paid. also when i turn left and right i have this fookin weird buzzing noise... WTF is up with that???

it should be safe enough to drive but you will need to replace the rack end and rack gator, this will stop the knocking noise but your tire on that side has probably suffered a bit, going by the angle of the rack your car must be very low???

great, its just the sounds that make me feel really uncomfortable. no, my car isn't lowered by a lot, its just lowered on lowering spring, about 35mm i'd say.

its prob. the angle of the pic confuse u....lol

dont worry bout the cv boot thats split. both of mine are and its fine it just protects it from getting dust in it and makin the joint wear out faster. im just waiting to get a motor to swap b4 i change them out. as far as the knocking im not sure, could have a loose bolt somewhere and sumtin is moving and get hung up and "popping" into the right place again. butim sure im wrong about a loose bolt

Dude that's the steering rack gator not the cv boot

True:nice:

I have the same issue with mine on both sides, just trying to find a day to do them.

Im sure its not a good idea to leave it for long tho as could cause rusting issues with the rack, so would try to get it done asap.....says me lol
