Intercooler used as radiator?

Hey everyone,

ill be starting to tuck my engine bay, and for better clearance. Also so i can throw a filter on my turbo. it may sound like a noob questions. but, i was wondering if you could use a small bar intercooler as a radiator? ive seen the Raywire tuck radiator looks exactly the same as an intercooler.

How are you proposing to fill up the system? I stand to be corrected but I think on a stock radiator the filling hole is the highest point of the cooling system. So if you have a leak the air will be collecting in the rad not in the engine (or at least majority of it), with what you have in mind you will have rad full of coolant and dry engine - not cool (literally). Also, in standard rad the coolant flows from top to bottom.

ive read some people done this and it works, also adding a filler neck. but want to see someone with a honda done this. been searching for someone who make custom radiators aswell.
 
Think the short answer is no. It will cool water but the difference between water and air density means that I/C are built with high flow in mind so they're tubes are made slightly larger and have fins on the inside to aid the cooling of air.

On the other hand you have the radiator with smaller tubes aiding cooling with slightly more pressure. Also as the I/C will likely hold more water it will mean that it will be heavier. I would also think that you would have to work round not having a radiator cap.

Quite possibly it would work but seeing as you have a V6 turbo I doubt it will cool enough to be useable.

heres a mock up of what im thinking. if I/C doesn't work, ill have to either fab it myself or have one custom made.

Cool, Rywire for wires tho...lol

-AN fittings are great for this makes everything easy.
I am thinking about doing something similar but with a twist.

chasebays are awesome in running a similar set up with a remote filler, but i used a custom radiator and IC to make a V mount.

I'm about to start work with an angled radiator ducted from the bumper up to a hood vent.
