intake advantage?

What advantages do you get from upgrading an oem 68mm TB and inlet manifold to 70mm+ TB & inlet manifolds?

Why would honda provide the ek9 with an "underperforming" inlet?

No matter what size intake you give it, the cylinders can still only take in the same amount of air?

Or is the upgrade to the intake not necessarily for "more air" but for "constant air"?

I am asking to learn not for an argument,
