Hello, im new to whole Honda and JDM thing, i ve always had a soft spot for french cars unfortunatly and own a saxo, untill now. (Ban me now if you like :D )

Anyway after my brother got himself an ep3 type r and i drove it that was it, i needed Vtec in my life, so after searching around ive decided on the idea of an ek9. (facelift preferably)

Purely because they seem so i dont know, raw? Along with the fact you never see any on the road it all sounds so tempting.

Just wondering really what the insurance is like on imports as i have no idea how to go about it, are there specialists etc? Any recomendations?

Any help/suggestions much appreciated.

Cheers

insurance is high on the better model hondas, import ek9 is very bad, group 18 maybe even higher, sure someone will clarify soon

how old are you if you dont mind me asking?
depending on age and experience, different companies will look at you with different perpectives.
if you are 21 + try:
Greenlight
Adrian Flux
A plan
Elephant (unsure n reliability)
etc
an ep3 would be cheaper, for me anyway, to insure :)

just insure it as a 1.6, thats all they say on the log book, but if u crash your ****ed

hello ian

i have some info for you

i am 23-24 in November

i had a bump in 2005 just a little one that went against me then just as i am coming to the end of my 2years to get 2NCB some old duffer runs in to me and BANG  but it might go against me as i was crossing his lane if i had a witness it would be his fault but as you can gess i dont have one,so i have been getting insurance quotes with 0 NCB and 2 accidents on file

so insurance for me 23 with 0 NCB 2 accidents on file

Elephant have quoted me £1442 fully comp with all mods such as exhaust system, filter and suspension, so not too bad manageable as i am so obsessed with getting an EK9 i will have to pay it,

but a word of advice put your mother on the policy as a named driver it will drop it so much about £300 off mine even if she never drives it it is worth it,

hope this can help you

i am going to ring the companies above to get some prices as i am looking to buy around November time and if this insurance goes against me i am going to buy sooner

lata mate

yeah its legal?? i tried gettin a quote from them and the model they came up with is a VTI R import.

yeh i agree with that just call them and ask them to confirm, totally legal and declare the mods its not much extra i like to do it properly best way to be mate.

it is either a VTI-R Import
or a
VTEC -R Import

both are the same price the VTEC-r differs in price by £20

An EK9 is neither a VTI-R nor a VTEC-R, if you insure it under those then its up to you.

If you prang it and insurance won't pay up, please don't come here crying about it or go on any forum as you have be already told that EK9s shouldn't be insured under such names.

Hmm well thats strange because 3 Insurance companies that i called all said that because the CTR EK9 is an import it is infact called a VTI-R yes we all know its a civic type R but thats what they call it!
They also said that the CTR carries an insurance group of 17!

I explained the whole "yeah but its called a type R" the guy then told me that if i was to claim then they would pay up as i had explained that they are another name in japan! (that was elephant that told me that by the way)

Like I said, go ahead if you want but don't whine if it ends in tears. If I were in the position of buying one, I'd get one insured properly. I guess some people out there are desperate enough to take the risk...
