I know now this is a very simple thing to do but took me ages to figure it out :p so i thought i would write up what i did to get the rear seats out of my facelift ek4 hatch

Dont be afraid to use a bit of force, that was my downfall at the start, i was afraid i would break something:D

1 Release the levers that hold the backrests and lay them down flat

2 Pick up the carpet in the boot and place it back over the seats so you can easily see the bolt holding the seat in place (with mine there was only one bolt, there may be more for other civics?) then undo the bolt(s) with a small wrench

3 get into the back of the car facing the rear window and put the backrests back up gently out of your way (dont close them fully)

4 put your hand down between the middle of the seat at the back and get hold of seat cushion and pull it straight up.
(if your getting stuck its probably one of the clips that were bolted earlier getting caught in the backrests. just use you other hand to push up on the area its getting caught and bring up the cushion carefully, you don't want to tear it)

5 once you have the seat up vertically hold the top and bottom of the right side of the seat, let the seat slightly back (say half ways) and push it from the bottom (towards the rear window say). that should release it.repeat for the opposite side then take it out

6 Again get into the back of the car facing the window and find the outer bar (closest to the passenger window) that goes into the bottom side of the backrest. There should be a black clip, Pull it off. Repeat for the other side

7 Grab the backrest and push it towards the side of the car ( releases the inner bar) adjust your angle and then pull it away from the side of the car (releases the outer bar). Repeat for the other side and your done :win:
